Reasons for...

I was wondering what some of the reasons for joining/forming a band were?

Is it for the...
1. money
2. fame
3. your love of music
4. chicks
5. wanting to entertian people
6. being part of a group/click
7. make'n your own music
8. travels to new places
9. meeting new people and fellow musicians
10. or is it just becuase you have to just to maintain

I think it will be interesting to know why some people are in this type of work!
For me it's mainly about the music and being able to interact with people and seeing them enjoy themselves. I also love meeting new people and fellow musicians!

I think the most obvious answer for most people is going to be for the love of music. All of the fringe benefits are great, but if you don't love the music, you're just going to get frustrated.

For me, money comes in as a very close second motivator. When I was a wee lad learning scales, I knew that my intention was to play at least semi-professionally. My father did it, so I just thought that was the way it is. Once I turned 18 and good legally entertain in a bar (well, you could get away with it back then. Don't know about the asinine laws right now

), I decided to go find some musicians who wanted to seriously gig, while most of my peers were screwing off in go-nowhere garage bands. I'm sure you've all heard my reasons for currently gigging; full-time student....blah, blah.....not enough time..blah,blah...maintain GPA to get into good graduate program...blah,blah....compared the amount of money I make gigging compared to stocking shelves at Wally World....blah, blah, so I won't bore you all with that again.

I know for me personally, it wasnt enough just sitting around writing songs or learning my personal favs without drums, vocals and bass guitar. Then when the 1st gig came, it was more than I ever imagined! I just fell in love with everything about being on stage entertaining! Lights, fog machines, free beer, meeting new people, that strange chill feeling 20 seconds before start time, free beer, listening to the crowd response before and after each song and did i mention....free beer? I never did shows just for the money because I never made a killing playing out. Most of the time it was a bag of peanuts and a "great job...wanna another spot next month?".

I took a couple of years off from playing out and I gotta tell ya, I am so f***ing pumped about getting back out there with all you crazy mutha's!!!!!!

Originally, I had folks in my background who told me I'd never do it, that I was all talk and daydreams... that's a great motivator, especially for a teenaged boy. Of course, I experienced music from a very deep place in my heart, but that got me started. Then, for a long time, it was the glamor, for lack of a better term... I liked the attention and notoriety and applause. Now, I do it for the sense of a team getting the job done, for the priviledge of having an appreciative audience, for camaraderie, and a little money.
In the upcoming project, however, it's simply sheer love of the music. I hope someone shows up and enjoys it, but if they don't, I'll play real music to empty chairs and go home happy. If you go see .OO Buck, you'll see passion.----------->JMS

when i first started my band, it was all about the dick. after about the 100th dude who said, 'can i just put the tip in?' i realized there was more to makin music. there was more to it than him hittin' bottom, pullin' hair & hittin' the WOW pedal (you know what i mean.) after i thought about it for a while, i realized that it was about more than pullin' ass. now i have a lot more to look forward to in my life than the grass cutting boy showing up on early enough on wednesdays so that my husband is at work & doesn't catch us naked. i am starting to truly appreciate my talents on the skin flute, to the point where i have blisters on my lips.

This is how you can tell Gene Simmons doesn't have much talent! He's all about the girls and not the music...it's a shame! But I hear they do put on a good show and make tons of cash...and get lots of pussy...BUT IT"S ABOUT THE MUSIC!

KISS puts on about the best live show I've ever seen. Believe me, it's about the music. The last time I saw them, they played a 2 1/2 hour set, non-stop, and they rocked ... every second of the show.

I'm not saying that love of music doesn't matter. It does. However, the love of women plays a bigger factor than alot of musicians will admit.

LMAO thats the truth.... all the ones in school the smart nerdy ones have bands.... these were the kids who were i'll just say it DORKS!!! Now with their band they are no longer nerds with out firends.... THEY HAVE FANS NOW.... LOL

I always had music going through my head, so playing instruments and writing music made sense . its all i have ever wanted to do as a "Career". to see the world and play the music that flows from my head and hands, i could die truly happy.
