As somebody who has had to dish out cases of M-G-D to another Rockpager for the past better part of a decade to settle the annual PSU-Michigan game wager, I take this year's last-second loss as hard, if not harder, than anyone. But scoreboard is scoreboard, and Michigan managed to do it to us again, 27-25. At least this year, PSU made Michigan EARN it. Next year, the Wolverines have to come to Happy Valley.
ToonaRockGuy, your M-G-D 30-pack has been purchased. PM me with the conditions of surrender...err...time and coordinates for transfer, and I'll get this sickening deed done and out of the way.
And by the way, Toona, it's definitely ON for next year...
At least I can take solace in the fact that the Lions will get back to a bowl game this year. And with the remaining schedule including next weekend's road game at Illinois (which they should win if they shake the hangover of this loss, which they should), Purdue and Wisconsin at Beaver Stadium (Purdue's season is going in the tank quickly, the Lions should win that one; Wisconsin should be tougher), and Michigan State on the road (I predict another all-out war, just like the Michigan game), it's quite possible the Lions could end up in a good bowl game, possibly even a BCS game if they take care of business the rest of the way.

If they win the rest of their games, they will still end up the Big 10 champ and in a BCS game, which is a good season for them this year or really for any team actually.

JoePa must have lost a step when he did not scream and demand the officials to look at a replay of the Mich. reciever who's heel was clearly on the line in a reception in that last drive. Even the announcer said the heel hit the white sideline. A Penn State reception was reviewed on instant replay earlier and called incomplete. The zebras blew that call ( or earned their money) and I was suprised JoePa was not going ballistic on the sidelines demanding a review.
if that reception was ruled incomplete as it should have been, the time used up on the next play would have used more than 1 second.

man
I was on the way to a gig in Lewistown with Jerry Carnicella and Andy Rhody.
Andy couldn't quite grasp why Jerry and I were screaming.

The one second isn't what killed them - Michigan starting at the 50ish yard line after that kickoff retun killed them. The return team/special teams killed Penn State. But, that two seconds the Michigan coach cried over goes to show how critical EVERY second counts. Also, if the Penn State defender would have only held us the receiver an extra second longer on the previous play, then all would have been well. Many factors...but enough to ruin a fans night non the less.

Why, in God's name, would they continue to kcik to Breston??? He burnt them all day long on returns (with an exception or two). You shouldn't keep kicking to a dangerous returner IMO...JayBird wrote:The one second isn't what killed them - Michigan starting at the 50ish yard line after that kickoff retun killed them. Actually, the toe was inbounds 1st then the heel came down out of bounds 2nd. I seriously doubt that the zebras saw it that way, but the ruling would have stood. Think about how many "great catch" replays you have seen where the guy's big toe touches green before everything else goes out of bounds.
PSU's last drive was too damned efficient with the clock. When Robinson scored with 53 seconds left, I was worried. Since midway thru the 4th quarter, both defenses had turned to jello. Someday, I'd like somebody to explain to me just what the "prevent" defense is supposed to prevent. It sure as hell isn't points.

the fact is - whether there was 2 seconds that shouldnt have been called back, or if they shoulda had a little more pressure, or if a shotty call was missed or anything - State lost this game, because Michigan was simply put.. 1 play better - yeah it hurts that that 1 play was the LAST play.. but that was the most entertaining State/Michigan game in YEARS.. sad it ruined a perfect season, but the fact that State is 6-1 and ranked 12 - with a damned good chance to be looking at the Fiesta Bowl is very respectable for this squad..lonewolf wrote:Actually, the toe was inbounds 1st then the heel came down out of bounds 2nd. Prevent defense prevents the bomb.. not a 10 yard route into the end zone.. calling prevent in that situation was stupid - should have just played a typical 4-3 - brought in some pressure and forced Henne to win the game.. he had time to eat a salad, drink a cup of coffee and read the sports section of the patriot on that last play..

Agreed...the prevent is only worth playing when you're up by 9+ and the other team is 40+ yards away. Otherwise your best bet is to play it straight up (in my opinion) or even blitz because you know it is a pass. Pinning your ears back and coming after them would work if you have decent corners.lonewolf wrote: PSU's last drive was too damned efficient with the clock. Upon thinking about this.. 1 question sums this entire thing up..
Where the fuck was Paul Posluszny?
That guy is like our bigfoot - he's everywhere.. Where was he that play - this was the moment he coulda used to push further for the Butkis award.. he shoulda smeared Henne, ended the game and then threw the ball into the crowd and screamed "not in my house bitch" it woulda been beautiful and fitting considering this season he's not only gone after quarterbacks.. but their entire families as well..

All I can say is this:
Now for a cheer they are here,
triumphant!
Here they come with banners flying,
In stalwart step they're nighing,
With shouts of vict'ry crying,
We hurrah, hurrah, we greet you now,
Hail!
Far we their praises sing
For the glory and fame they've bro't us
Loud let the bells them ring
For here they come with banners flying
Far we their praises tell
For the glory and fame they've bro't us
Loud let the bells them ring
For here they come with banners flying
Here they come, Hurrah!
Hail! to the victors valiant
Hail! to the conqu'ring heroes
Hail! Hail! to Michigan
the leaders and best
Hail! to the victors valiant
Hail! to the conqu'ring heroes
Hail! Hail! to Michigan,
the champions of the West!
We cheer them again
We cheer and cheer again
For Michigan, we cheer for Michigan
We cheer with might and main
We cheer, cheer, cheer
With might and main we cheer!
Hail! to the victors valiant
Hail! to the conqu'ring heroes
Hail! Hail! to Michigan,
the champions of the West!
GO BLUE!!
