Anyone in the mood for something FUNNY! (Worth Reading)
Anyone in the mood for something FUNNY! (Worth Reading)
Ok, so last night I have a session...the client comes in and the conversation goes something like this......
JM: So what are we doing?
Client: (White guy, about 35/40ish) Well, I've been making money as a movie extra, but I want to start getting more work at it. My agent wants to put together a promo pack and he wants it to include a vocal demo.
JM: Cool. So are you going to sing something, or is this a dialogue demo?
Client: Well, I thought I'd sing.
JM: Cool. Do you have any music or is just accapella (sp??).
Client: I don't have the music, but I know the words to a lot of songs.
JM: (getting confused) Ok.
So the Client goes into the vocal booth and we do a couple level checks and some eq'ing.
JM: So what are we going to do?
Client: Take it Easy by the Eagles?
JM: Cool (this should be interesting, no music!)
After about 45 minutes of butchering this song and getting nowhere, conversation turns to this.......
Client: I want to do something different.
JM: Ok
Client: I have a lot of black friends, but I don't hang out with them at night.
JM: ???? (Sitting in silence)
Client: I picked up a lot off of them and I think I'm going to rap instead. It seems to be pretty popular right now.
JM: Ok, what song are you going to do?
Client: I'll just make it up as I go.
JM: Freestyle!!!!
Client: (Looking puzzled.)
JM: Nevermind, do you want me to make you a quick beat or are you going to wing it.
Client: You can make a beat?
JM: Sure, give me a half hour. It's still billable time, but the beat is yours to keep. I don't hold any copyright.
Client: (Looking puzzled)
JM: I have to charge you to make the beat, it isn't free.
Client: Ok, I'll go up and grab something to eat.
JM: Cool.
So, the client comes back and I have the beat ready. He then pulls off some of the most horrid white boy rapping ever! Thank God he was in the back vocal booth and couldn't see me laughing. Well....here it is.....an online exclusive......
FYI: For those not familiar with S. Florida.....Pompano is a little town outside of Fort Lauderdale....Hallandale is a suburb of North Miami.

It sounds like he should have taken old sKool's advice and "got in touch with his hip-hop side".
Sorry, I'm just plugging those old sKool quotes at every opportunity.
That is a hilirious story though.

"He's the electric horseman, you better back off!" - old sKool making a reference to the culturally relevant 1979 film.
Next William Hung?
I'm just curious to see how far this spreads. If I get a FW: email with this in it, I'm going to lose it.
Quite possibly the next William Hung.

Yea, not really something I would listen to, but expected it to be worse, that does not seem to sound any different than what I hear people playing in their cars here in SC. Why do they listen to so much rap here in State College anyway, I thought students in college towns had more of an interest in alternative music.
If music be the food of love, then play on...

Yo yo you...Homeboy! Yo ho's in Pompano....
That my friends is a HIT!! A genuine smash. Ain't no rapper out there that'll touch this one.
During several sessions at the studio, we had a few experiences like this one but with other styles of music. Country Mountain Mix was our most favorite to record. As a matter of fact, I'm going to dig a few of their choice tunes for your listening pleasure. I had the honor of recording some of the guitar solos and all the bass work on this particular project. Not even Rush could hold a candle to the time signatures they were creating.

I have tiny hands, like a Tyrannosaurus. T-Rex may be the lizard king but he could never play the guitar...
HA
"Whatch yo name....who knows?"
Actually, one of my friends just made that into his ring tone, specific for when I call. Sheese, this thing is getting out of hand!
I'll ask him how he did it, but I walk into the Elbo Room now and when Glenn's playing, he's like "Ain't no hoes...HEEEEY" over the mic. Hilarious!
