A tribute to Jeff - UPDATE

Post by Ron »

Aldo's - Friday, April 29th

If any musicians or bands want to participate, contact me or Rich at Aldo's, or just show up.

Thngs are going to get started at 9:00 PM, so that we have plenty of time for the jam session, which always seems to be too short.

Although we usually set up 2 drum kits, for the sake of PA sanity, mic count and sound quality, I'm leaning toward using 1 fully mic'ed set, 2 guitar rigs, 1 bass rig and 4 vocal mics.

I'll be updating this as things are sorted out.

Current line up:

The Flame Sky
Gasoline Dion
Farm Show
The Jam
... and then the wheel fell off.

This is cool, we're totally down. (Gasoline Dion)

If I can get details, I'll totally pimp out the show from our end...

I'll bring my bass along, and I'll throw in some chops if I can.

It's sad that a get together like this had to happen under such sad circumstances. We will still rock the hell out and have a good time because Jeff wouldn't have had it any other way.

I can feel that. When Justin died, it slapped a lot of things into perspective for me.

Wow! I can't believe that I'm the first one out of bed (1:45) to post something about how GREAT the show went.
Kudos to Ron and Matt for making sure the production was PRO, and of course Troy for gettin it all together and everyone who came out to support it. definitely the best night in Altoona in a LONG time.
BIG thanks to Eric and the boys from the Burgh for making the trip up. You guys kicked

It definitely was one of the most special nights the Altoona music scene has seen in a long time. Obviously Jeff Wallack touched a lot of people while he was here, and they all came out to Aldo's to celebrate and remember his life Friday night! Bandmates and contemporaries, fans from as far away as York and Pittsburgh, young and older fans and friends alike - it was one huge music community tying together to celebrate Jeff Wallack!

For me, it was almost like stepping back into 1989; I saw many faces I hadn't seen in years, and all congregated into the same room for the first time since 1989 or 90!

There were inspired and heartfelt performances throughout the night; many special moments as well. Hats off to CuCuPlex, Choking Faith, Gasoline Dion, The Flame Sky (with Steve Oswalt and The Grimm's Scott Botteicher and Bob Lee), the solo performers and duets, Farm Show and the night-ending jam session of veteran area rockers - it all kicked serious ass! Hats off to Ron, Matt, Troy and everyone who had a hand in making it happen; it was a very special night!

As I told a number of people on Friday night, I'm working on a special picture board in memory of Jeff Wallack, featuring photos I took of him in action onstage plus some of the articles I wrote about him through the years in Pennsylvania Musician. I hope to have it completed in a few weeks, and will present it to Aldo's to display once it is done. I'll post here on Rockpage when it is done, so everyone can check it out.

I was glad to be a part of that, and I know it meant a lot to Dave. It's 4:55am, and I just got home from Aldo's for the 2nd night in a row.

Damn, Altoona. You know how to party.

I choked up on it when I was on stage, but Jeff was like the long lsot brother that I never had. I lost count of how many days I spent just hanging out at Jarrett's with him just making noise and having him tell stories. He sold me my first bass and a whole bunch of stuff after that. I will treasure the things that I still have that he sold me just because that's all I have besides the memories.

I have so many people to thank that I don't know where to start.

First I have to thank Matt and Dan for helping to get all of the PA/lighting problems fixed and ready for the show. I also have to thank everyone who made it on to the stage, and my apologies to anyone who wanted to play but didn't get the chance. I also have to thank everyone at Aldo's for treating us so well throughout this whole ordeal.

It was a great night even though I was running around like a basketcase. The Iceman benefit on Friday will be a better time for me to socialize.

Thanks again to all that attended, it was a great tribute to a great friend.
... and then the wheel fell off.
