A statistic I heard long ago probably still holds true. The highest bar to home ratio in the state is in Schuylkill County. The residents of Minersville (Schuylkill County) often spoke proudly of this distinction.

I read many years ago, in Reader's Digest of all places, that Altoona PA, has more bars and churches than any other city per capita. That was in maybe, the mid-80's. I suppose it could have been bogus, but it always stuck with me.---->JMS
