HOMEGROWN ROCKER 8/12/12 (WHERE THE TRUTH LIES)

Post by Jim Price »

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the August 12 edition of Rocky 104.9 and Rocky 99's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com) and WRKW-FM (www.rocky99.com).

Thanks to our guests this week, Sean Beckel and Duane Butler of Altoona area metal rockers Where The Truth Lies (http://www.reverbnation.com/wttl). Sean and Duane told us the group’s story to date, and we heard tracks from their recently-issued EP Secular Silence. Along the way, we debuted new songs from There There and Synesthesia, updated “Local Music News,” and dug a 2001 song by Harrisburg’s Spellbound from the archive for this week’s “Local Music Flashback.” And we reviewed Graces Downfall’s Resplendent Indignity CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner.”

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

CANDLELIGHT RED – “Demons”
AFTER THE FALL – “One Shot”
WHERE THE TRUTH LIES – “All Your Fears”
THERE THERE – “Weight of the World”
WHERE THE TRUTH LIES – “Darkness Becomes Her”
SYNESTHESIA – “Deceiver”
WHERE THE TRUTH LIES – “Fading Away”

HOUR TWO:

DETHLEHEM – “Circle of Deth”
IMAGES OF EDEN – “Living the Surreal”
WHERE THE TRUTH LIES – “Make Your Stand”
GRACES DOWNFALL – “Control”
WHERE THE TRUTH LIES – “Thrown to the Wolves”
SPELLBOUND – “My Imagination” (2001, Local Music Flashback)
WHERE THE TRUTH LIES – “Temper”

The “Homegrown Rocker” will take a week off on August 19, due to a Pittsburgh Steelers Sunday night preseason game (they take on Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts). The program will then return on August 26, when our guests in studio will be Rain Must Fall. We’ll get the latest scoop from the band members, and hear tracks from their latest album, Wednesday Starts the Weekend. We will also update “Local Music News,” dig out another “Local Music Flashback” from the archive, and review another new local/regional CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner!” So tune in for Rain Must Fall when the “Homegrown Rocker” returns on Sunday, August 26!

Upcoming guests and specials include:

AUG. 26 – RAIN MUST FALL
SEPT. 2 – FRED MYERS & THE REDNECK MAJORITY
SEPT. 9 – (NO SHOW DUE TO STEELERS FOOTBALL)
SEPT. 16 – TUKURPA
SEPT. 23 – LOCAL AMERICANA SPECIAL
SEPT. 30 – ALEX RAMSDELL
OCT. 7 – JOHN “JT” THOMPSON
OCT. 21 – (NO SHOW DUE TO STEELERS FOOTBALL)
OCT. 28 – DANIEL COLLINS/STATE COLLEGE THEN & NOW
NOV. 11 – ACOUSTIC JAM SPECIAL
NOV. 18 – (NO SHOW DUE TO STEELERS FOOTBALL)

NOTE: We are approaching the time of the year when the Pittsburgh Steelers hit the gridiron again. Since both Rocky 104.9 and Rocky 99 broadcast Steelers football, the “Homegrown Rocker” will again change its air time once the regular season begins. The show will air from 9 to 11 p.m. starting on Sunday, September 16, and will air at this time each Sunday night through the duration of the Steelers’ season. Hopefully, that will be through February 3, the date of Super Bowl XLVII in New Orleans!

Part of the Woody At 100 celebration, the contest is being conducted by Paul Stookey of Peter, Paul & Mary. Song submissions will be reviewed during the “Stand Up & Sing” seminar on Thursday evening, September 6 at Penn State’s Foster Auditorium. The top reviewed artist wins a spot at the following night's Woody Guthrie Celebration Concert featuring Stookey, Si Khan and other national artists at The State Theatre. The deadline for entries is August 29. Entrants need to submit a link to the track or mp3 of the song, their name, phone number, email address, and 250-word biography about themselves. Entries should be emailed to contest@music2life.org.

A new band project has come together featuring former members of The Edge, Sidewalk Romeo, Five Nations, Flight 19 and Breaking Bad has come together. Shard features singers/guitarists Scott Imler and Bill Wandersee, bassist Todd Batzel and drummer Paul Carracciolo. The group will perform a variety of modern and classic rock.
