In Local Music News…
A special concert paying tribute to an influential area radio show will happen next month. The tribute to “All Night Album Rock” will take place on Friday night, August 17 at 30 Something in Altoona. The concert will pay homage to “All Night Album Rock,” a popular and influential radio program which aired on WFBG-AM in Altoona from 1975 to 1986. The concert will feature the show’s original host, Steve Kelsey, and feature reunion performances from former late ‘70s-era rockers Pulse and Black Diamond, along with special guests Blu Voodoo. There will also be a jam session featuring musicians from a number of the local bands whose music was featured on “All Night Album Rock.” Advance tickets are $8, and available at 30 Something. Several representatives from the tribute concert will discuss the event on the August 5 edition of the “Homegrown Rocker.”
The annual Kids Come First Benefit; 21st End Of Summer Jam benefit for Pittsburgh’s Children’s Hospital will take place on Saturday, August 25 at the Cresson Sportsmen’s Club. The concert will run from 1 to 10 p.m., and will feature eight area bands. Groups thus far confirmed to perform at this year’s event are Sunset Strip, the Backyard Rockers, Rain Must Fall, the Rhythm Sharks, and Emberstitch. Other groups interested in performing at the benefit can learn more information about the benefit through the website www.rockpage.net.
Area original rockers Lies, Inc. are undergoing a roster change. Guitarist Jason “Dax” Berardi is parting ways with the group, and they are seeking a new lead guitarist to replace him.
As reported previously, Ted McCloskey is set to unveil his sixth studio album. The new disc, entitled The Last of the Pin-Up Girls, will make its debut this Friday evening during the performance of Ted and his band, the Hi Fis’ at the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts in State College. That performance will begin at 6 p.m. on the Allen Street stage.
