Phillipsburg?
So... what's cool to do around Phillipsburg? I think we're road-trippin' up in the afternoon on Saturday n' we're gonna look around town maybe pass out flyers if there's time. Anywhere that we could go where the flyers might pique some interest? Music Stores? CD Stores? Comic Book Stores?
Also, accoring to Yahoo maps, it'll be best to come in up 28 to 66 to 322... any good Sheetz locations along that route? If so, which ones are the most rockin'?
Also... they say this is about a 2 hour 45 min. trip... is that about right?

Sorry Eric, but I had to remove that Sheetz post because the url was wayyyy too long.
Oh... and I NEVER trust online map directions, I've gotten lost a few times with only an online map, and most, especially Mapquest, are outdated most of the time. I once did an online map from Yahoo to the Outerbanks. The entire length of RT.95 it said to get off at each exit, then back onto RT.95 at the next.
A real map and a little pre-planning wins hands down everytime.

Phillipsburg
Gotta hit Denny's Beer Barrel Pub!!!!!
I pulled off the 2 lb Burger there in the summer of 2001. My name's somewhere on that wall. Recently, I hear someone finally ate the 6lb monster!!!! It was actually in a magazine article down here. Good times, and I still haven't found another bar with deep fried pickles!

I'd hit up the Chinese buffet that's down by Bi-Lo. Man, I haven't been there in like two years. I went to the one buffet in downtown Clearfield last week after school. Man, I love Chinese.

And when you do that 6-pound burger challenge, you have to also eat all of the bun, plus these condiments: ketchup (a half cup, I think), a half cup of relish, half a head of lettuce, a whole onion, and pickles! That's in addition to the meat!
The girl said she didn't eat anything for two days before doing the 6-pound burger challenge.
Denny's Beer Barrel Pub has photos and a small article inside their door of the girl who ate the 6-pound burger. (I saw it when I dropped off magazines there earlier today.) The burger, bun and condiments look bigger than her head!Recently, I hear someone finally ate the 6lb monster!!!! It was actually in a magazine article down here.

The same rules apply for the 2 and 3 lb burgers....if you want the shirt and the free meal or whatever they give you. I remember finishing with 3 minutes left and the waitress telling me to start shoveling in condiments that fell on to the plate.
By the second handful of lettuce/onion/italian dressing/mild pepper rings I was hurting. After receiving my T-shirt and a picture, it was outside for a little Pukin rally by the tracks. Boy that was a long ride back to Portage.
I still have that shirt somewhere!

I don't remember the G-man in State College having deep fried pickles?!? Of course, the only time I really made it there was for $1 Ice House happy hour, Friday after the Cafe's $2 Long Islands. Maybe that's why I don't remember.

Philipsburgh? Hmmm, no offense to anyone from around there but not much to the town. Except... the girls at work and I have noticed that P-Burg is Weird Crime Central. Like, everday something happened the night before that made either the newspaper (esp CDT) or the TV news. Its always something odd like little kids highjacking a school bus (with the size of that town I can picture the bus driver looking at the kid and saying 'I know your mother, now you get home'), car chases that always end in an odd way, molestations, and bank/convenience store robberies. Whats going on in Philipsburg? Hey Eric, ever been to Altoona? Its not great but I'm sure there would be more places to put up flyers and we do have lots of great restaurants...more to do besides crime & misdemeanors.

Heh. Yeah, AiXeLsyD went to Altoona once to be on the Backyard Rocker... it was cool, we got our picture taken in front of the Sheetz corporate office!!! We also, jammed in the parking lot. Heh. It doesn't take much to entertain me.
(Sorry 'bout that URL length!!!)
Looking at the map though, we won't really pass through Altoona. Is Phillipsburg all that far?
We're bringing about 5 or 6 people with us to road-trip, and some friends from Johnstown and Shanksville are making the trip out... so we'll have somewhat of a crowd... I just dunno how to draw people from the immediate area if they've never heard of us.
Maybe if we have time, we'll hit up this Denny's place though! I think we're leavin' the 'Burgh about 3:00 or 3:30pm, heading up 28 (since we'll be leavign from right on it), over on to 66, and then to 322.
I always print Yahoo! & MapQuest directions & compare & contrast the two.
I have a PA roadmap in the glovebox and a cell phone if all else fails.
Getting there is half the fun!
I know on previous band-related road-trips, we pass the time by holdign signs in the window to other cars on the road like "We're in a band, follow us to the show!" or other way-more non-politically correct signs.

Where are ya playin in Philipsburg and when? If you're coming from "daburgh" meaning Pitts.......start on 28, take it to I 80 east to Clearfield Exit 120, to 322 east. This will take you within spitting distance of Dennys pub. www.dennysbeerbarrelpub.com Here's how, after getting off at 120, make a right, go through two red lights, and then after crossing a bridge, 322 signs will make you exit to the right. This brings ya to another stop sign, go straight, and Dennys is on the hill to your right. Philipsburg is 20 minutes away on 322. Unfortunately there is little to do in Philipsburg, but I'm not sure eating Ye Ole 96er is a good idea before a gig.

You'd be farther ahead to skip I-80 and just go 28 to 322. Most likely the directions you got have you follow 28 and get on I-80 in Brookville. 322, 36, and 28 all cross each other right by where you'd be getting on I-80. I live just outside of brookville, and have traveled to Phillipsburg, Altoona, and State College both ways several times, staying on 322 instead of I-80 always seems to be faster and is a few miles shorter.
