Original Thought?
I was having a conversation with my kids at their rehearsal the other night (yes they do rehearse just not in a really serious manor) and the conversation turned to movies and the number of remakes that we are subject to.. Then Glee and the suggestion that songs can be great in spite of who does them..
The we moved to the internet and the number of posts that are a link to another persons thoughts or ideas..
I wonder if the internet will be a force for creative activity or will it lead to the dumbing down even further of our society?
Just a thought...

Dumbing down
Dumbing down. You can see it already. They remade Foot Loose which was not the best movie to begin with.

Re: Original Thought?
I believe it will be both. Because of cheap digital technology, we have been inundated with terabytes of really bad music. On the other hand, truly gifted composers and musicians will have an opportunity to distribute their work where it was not possible 30 years ago.tornandfrayed wrote:I wonder if the internet will be a force for creative activity or will it lead to the dumbing down even further of our society?

Remember when MTV came out? They were still selling vinyl and CDs were just coming out. Making and distributing vinyl as an indie was almost impossible and only the biggest bands could afford to go to a digitally equipped studio. In 1982, the only way for an unknown band to become known was to spend $50,000 on a video production and hope like hell MTV liked it. Ah yes, the dark ages....
...Oh, the freedom of the day that yielded to no rule or time...

And there it is...bassist_25 wrote:I wonder how long it will take for this thread to turn into a covers vs. originals debate.
Way to go Paul.
I cling to the hope that someday people will get tired of the crap being stuffed down their throats and dig a little to find the talent that lies beneath.
False hope is better than no hope, right?
It's impossible to know the burdens carried by any man or demons that haunt his steps.
Movies these days just don't have the same bite as many counterparts do. I've seen some half-decent horrors, but none of them really have enough to stick out in my mind. You can predict them from the point. Some of them are downright stupid to begin with. It's not that they're not doing anything to be that surprising. They do, from time to time. There are a few that the ending actually did come out of nowhere. But they just don't have anything in the middle. It all adds up at a weird pace compared to yesterday's movies. The horror genre, specifically, is very guilty of this. There are VERY few exceptions
One such exception was the movie Haunting of Winchester House. The movie seemed to pace weird, as most do, but then the true kudos lies in the way the movie ended. Even with a lot of things being easy to read, the movie still goes along alright, and actually makes enough direct sense, with an ending that, while it doesn't totally knock you off your feet, still does its job. I'm not going to go into spoilers, but it's actually worth seeing, compared to piles of other movies
The Saw series, at least for the first couple, was actually an interesting change to the various horror genre types. After awhile, they were simply adding onto it for money, and that started to show fast. But I'll give credit where credit is due
