Post by Hawk »

I love nearly all genre.

When I'm playing, there is not a problem in the world !

It's like the ultimate form of meditation.

Thank you to everyone who plays music.

Thank you to everyone who listens to music.

Kayla, don't let it take over your life just allow it to become part of your life. You will enjoy it much more. Great playing on Sun. You rock girl. B

Hawk, I'm curious: you love NEARLY all genres? I don't want you to pick on any, but what is it about the ones you don't like?

I guess some are like panning for gold, but there are still nuggets of goodness everywhere.

We were talking about being musicians the other night. Its just a lifeforce really. If I don't play I never feel really alive. I did take off 7 years to spend with my son in his formative years and during that time I was always blessed to have friends who let me sit in and "feel" it for a little while. Fortunately I have raised a really great kid who loves his Mom being a musician. Last week when we played at Applebees he got to come along. I looked over and saw him singing along with me.

That was ultimate happiness for me.

Right now I'm blessed to be playing in Hot Damn with guys I love and respect. It's the best feeling in the world being onstage with peeps you really gel with.

We've got a very generous community here and I'm blessed to be part of it!

Good post, Trace. One of my long-held beliefs that I've espoused here in the past is that music is the most powerful thing in the universe. I still fully believe that, and am so proud of my 9 year old daughter who is now taking drum lessons at school. I made sure that she wasn't doing it just to make daddy happy, and that she really wanted to do it. She does, so it's so cool to watch her get excited for drumming. That alone makes all the years of payin' dues worth it.

I love music because it's the biggest part of me. Music makes me exist.

I love music also. Creating it is fun. I HATED playing live though. Some people have no care in the world when they play, and I had every care in the universe.
I hated being in front of people & on the spot. It made me so nervous and I even began to literally SHAKE before and during the show. I discovered that it was because it was a vulnerable version of me that plays on stage.

On the other hand, I could get up and do my "comedy routine" in front of 100 people and not be bothered at all. That is playing a part though. Ive separated myself.
So it isnt actually me there doing the routine. I dont have some part I play when I played live though. If im playing a part, im fine. The real me is much more vulnerable and self-conscious. Im weird and stupid.

I love music, but being a musician isn't as central to my self-concept and identity as it was when I was 20 years old. I'm relieved by that. As I've gotten older and tried more things, I've realized there are things that I'm much better at than music (and it helps that they're more profitable too ).

Keith, I still get the shakes sometimes. Especially at places we haven't played yet.

I love music, I definitely agree being a musician has changed my life. When I picked up my first insturment, the guitar, I was self-teaching, and I got so frustrated I threw it in the corner and told myself I'd never be able to learn. I'm very thankful to my friend who gave me the chance to be a bass player and find how much more I LOVE IT! Picking up an instrument just feels amazing. This is why I wanna get back on the band scene, because it was invigorating putting all that practice into it and then getting up on stage in front of all those people, and then getting the ole pat on the back afterwards, just made it worth it. I only had one big bar gig so far, but even though we had tech difficulties, I loved it. So far I can play bass, mandolin and hoping to pick up drums at some point. Right now I sit down with a beginer's book and 2 sticks figuring out rhythm and what not. if I didnt have music in my life...well i dont wanna think about that :P

Music is a uniquely personal thing. It's the main reason why I NEVER watch any talent competition that puts down and degrades any person who may not be as talented as they are looking for (we all know what the shows are). There was something with that song they sang that touched them so much that they were going to sing it or play it in public. I write mostly instrumentals, but I can tell you exactly how I was feeling during the process, the things going on around me, even the movies I was watching during that time period. I've even warmed up slightly to karaoke, when done well. I went somewhere here in Pittsburgh when I moved here. It was karaoke night, but every single person had TALENT! Hell, a black gangsta looking dude absolutely nailed Travis Tritt TROUBLE! It was quite a site! Something in that song touched him to the point that he was going to perform it.

In short, the love of music is something that should never be taken away from you.
