Is anyone else going to Eisenhower next Saturday? It should be a really good show.

Maybe. His current drummer, Antonio Sanchez, is amazing. Worth seeing. Any other jazz fans on RP?

Pat Metheney is awesome. Very good stuff...we did some of his Music in Marching band a couple years ago in Tyrone. We did a song called first circle which is in 22/8 time sig., and Minauno 6/8. Very cool stuff, but also very difficult.

More jazz is coming.

I just got the press release today. Herbie Hancock, Michael Brecker and Roy Hargrove are coming to Penn State's Eisenhower Auditorium on Tuesday evening, Feb. 22.

State College is a pretty busy place this month. Bluesman Guitar Shorty is coming to the American Ale House next Thursday evening, Feb. 10. (He's one of Jimi Hendrix's influences.) Then Pat Metheny next Saturday, followed by the Herbie Hancock show. Then Crowbar has The Clarks, Shinedown to finish February, and Breaking Benjamin the following night to kick off March!

*raises hand* Right here!

I'm mainly into what would be considered "Modern" Jazz, everything from Bop onwards through West Coast, Free, Fusion, Acid and even Smooth (as long as it's not too cheesy. Think: guy with long curry hair that goes by his first name and last intial for an example of cheese) I dig a lot of Swing and Jump-Blues too as long as it has a good hook. I'm also into really crazy atonal stuff like Mahavishnu Orchestra and Naked City.

I always wanted to play some REAL Jazz, but I would have to take up the double-bass first. That's not because I'm a purist or anything; I just prefer the timbre that double-bass produces in a Jazz setting. I still have to get the electric down first, though.
"He's the electric horseman, you better back off!" - old sKool making a reference to the culturally relevant 1979 film.
