Air your swagger

Post by Jasaoke »

So, what do you like most about your current group and/or project? Go ahead and brag. Let's highlight what Rockpage has to offer. What's your specialty? What do you offer that no one else does? There has to be something; you didn't join a band just like that other band. You stand out, you're great at something, you're worth watching because...

Feel free to compliment some one else, if you're currently not involved with anything. But try to qualify it. "As a non-musician, I loved watching these guys because..."

*note: Please do not put others down, or say that you're too good for everybody, or gripe about politics: we're all stocked up on that.

I am a huge fan of The Hawks. There are the only band in Blair County playing nothing but blues. You need a blues fix, go see the Hawks. Every part of this band works. Great, smooth rhythm, great bass lines, smoking lead guitar and great vocals.

I've often said that if I wasn't a member of Mama Corn, I'd follow them around anyway. I'm really lucky to be in a band with Bruce Forr. He has a vast repertoire of material from blues to grass to rock to pop to country... just try and stump the guy. He also has what I think is a very interesting voice... his vocals on the new CD are more 3-dimensional than my own, richer and more... interesting. He's also an under-appreciated songwriter and a helluva guitarist. Jeremy Nelson pretty much produced the album, too, and did a great job.
This new CD might just surprise a few people. We sunk a huge amount of money and time into it, and it's not all twang and cornpone. It's a study in what's called Second Generation bluegrass, 70's-inspired, and somewhat pop-inflected. I think "surprising" is an apt description. We have boxes full of them, they arrived yesterday, so buy one, please!

Nice swagger, John! That's exactly what I'm looking for here.

And where do we buy one these CDs? How much?
