Winter Storm Saturday night - How did you fare?

Post by Jim Price »

I was just curious on how everybody did on Saturday night after the snowfall. Did you play your scheduled gig? How did you do? Did you go to see a show? How did you fare?

I went to Peter C's to see Torn Black, featuring former members of XL, Montage and Insult to Injury. Given the road conditions and that it was the band's first official bar gig booked on less than a week's notice, it wasn't a bad night. About 20 people (In Peter C's, that's a crowd), and they all stayed around til night's end.

Jus got home from my sound gig. Thanx for the heads up before JP. :D
Ricky called me and told me about your post. I got to talk to Dean right after that. U definately helped us figure out what to expect tonite. :) I really enjoyed Love Stomp's second appearence at the Pub. Last time I mixed them they had a different bass player and drummer. Their current bassist dates Carrie (formerly of Juiced). That was real cool for me because I got to send a hello and good luck in Los Angeles message to her. They had a crowd of prolly 30 people in and out. I had to mix with a hangover and a cold (fever too).

Our Friday night gig cancelled due to personal reasons, Our first gig Saturday went well but when we walked into the bar for our second gig the bartender told us the owner didn't want any music due to the storm. She couldn't even call us to cancel, we had to find out by walking in. That sucked! :x

We got cancelled at the Johnstown Brewing Co. I think we could have made it but there probably wouldn't have been a crowd anyway. Since I counted my chickens before they hatched and paid some extra on bills (counting on playing money ) stayed home due to LOW funds.

I don't believe Pop Shop made it to Yesterdays Party
Don't bitch to me about the economy while you're still buying Chinese products.

I didn't go to Cumberland, MD to my gig. I'm not afriaid to drive in the snow,(4x4), and was going to go, but there was supposed to be mixed precip. south of the PA tpk. and I didn't want to leave the family snowed in and get stuck 90 miles away.
NOR did I want to miss either Football playoff game today!
so I stayed home and plowed us and my neighbors out with the ATV.
I was dissappointed not to get the big snowfall they called for too...
hope everyone else did OK
peace all.......................

Went to see VTE at City Limits Saturday. It was pretty messy out but my dad's a truck driver so we made it there and home safely ;) Not too many people were at the bar however, especially not a lot on the dance floor. Still a good time to be had.

I played in a Magic the Gathering tournament in Butler PA. It was Saturday, and then I come to work today, I find out the lady who fills in on my days off, called off.

I drove from Altoona to Butler and back through it, she could drive from her house to work.

Damn lazy people...so other than my work load being left for me, I made out okay.

my first gig with IN was cancelled up in grampian...so I went to City Limits to see Vs the Earth. It wasn't bad, talked to Shawn a bit about drumming and stuff. Had a decent time.

Top Five Worst Load-Out Ever! We were at Blue Knob Clubhouse, and made the mistake of topping the mountain on the way up there, in white-out conditions. Then we loaded in as the snow reached knee-deep. The crowd, by the way, was awesome... I figure a hundred or so in and out... kind of a captive audience, many got there by snowmobile. They really liked us and partied hard... management wanted us back this season but we're booked up, too bad, it was fun.

Then the load out.

Right around zero degrees with a 40 mph sustained wind, and snowing heavily, even though it was supposed to stop by early evening. That wind cut right through anything you had on, I'm pretty sure my jimmy had more frost on it than the beer mugs, it sure felt like it. We took the other way down the mountain, hoping to beat the snowdrifts that surely would have plagued the roads the other way, due to being surrounded by open fields. Good choice, it was worlds better than the white-knuckle ride on the way up.

This one ranks up there with the Hurricane Ivan monsoon load-in at Peter C's in September, and the 18 degrees below zero/no heater fiasco I had in '97. Always an adventure, and I wouldn't have it any other way. If I wasn't a musician I wouldn't have a damn thing to talk about! (Yeah, I know... what a shame!)----->JMS

We cancelled Sat at Granatelli's..2 mountains and rte 30 gave me 2nd thoughts .....one good thing!!..they had and opening this Sat ..and so did we ,,,so we'll try this again ~¿~ Another thing that helped us make the chioce was we were playing for the door ...and "I" wouldn't drive in that stuff just to see "me"!!! So I don't blame anyone for stayin home that night!!!..the fireplace was the place to be!
