This list wasn't about the most influencial bassists, it was top 10 bassists.
What does "top" mean then? If it's chops, then I can name a bazillion other players than the one's you think worthy of this list. :?
And in my comparison if you asked Burton to play ANYTHING ever written by the Beatles, he woulda said "hand me a bass". Now if you asked McCartney to play 'Battery' I'm pretty sure he'd say "you want me to play what?!!!"
If you asked Sean Malone to play Seek and Destroy, he would say "hand me a bass." If you asked Burton to play "The Space for This," I'm pretty sure he'd say "you want to play what?"

So what's your point? Why's everything have to be a head cutting contest?

Didn't mean to get your panties in a bunch. Top anything is opinion based. For every person that agrees with you, I'll have one that agrees with me. That's the beauty of the lists...no 2 will ever be the same. When I make a "top anything" list I basically put them head to head. And if player 1 can do anything player 2 can, but there's stuff player 1 does that 2 couldn't...then in my eyes that person is better. But that's my opinion, clearly yours is different and that's what makes these lists so fun to discuss.

Then you got my point. Aruging over this stuff like there is some sort of objective measure is pointless.

Taking inovation and songwriting out of the equation is so stupid and pointless.

If it was just chops every top ten list ever would go

10 - 1) Some Japanese dude no one has ever heard of
Stand back, I like to rock out.

Who took those out of the equation? I certainly use those as key points in my comparisons.

Yeah, for every good player, there is always someone better. That is why I said that list should be called the most popular bass player, not the greatest bass player.
