Internet Speed Tweaks

Post by redawg »

Hey all, I've been searching for a long time for a site that will help me set my cable modem and internet properties to get the best performance. I'm just not getting the speeds I think I should be getting. More often than not, I ended up at sites that wanted to sell me products like WEB ROCKET. There doesn't seem to be any sites that tell you what the best settings for internet properties are. Any suggestions or input from anyone would be most appreciated. I think we could all benefit from this thread. I've heard about registry tweaks and I really don't want to edit my registry unless it's a really good tweak. I'm more interested in things like port settings, FIFO buffer settings, Extra Initialization Commands, TCP/IP settings.

Here you go Red.

Here's an important quote from the site:
The only Windows 95/98/Me/NT/2000/XP network setting that has any real effect on DSL or Cable Modem speed is the TCP Receive Window size, which can be controlled with Registry settings:

Everything else commonly recommended (e.g., TTL) are urban myths that won't help.
... and then the wheel fell off.
