VFW shows in state college!! if you were there then you know!! The local bands were the best and the small label indie bands that rolled through, Damn!!! Even the scene in toon town rocked 100 - 200 people at little punk shows in the ywca, lion's den, saint leo's, saint stan's, etc. etc. Noone hassled you, the building owners trusted 17 and 18 year olds with their buildings. People were cool and happy to have shows to goto. Ok I'm bummed now i miss the old days!!!

One of the best (semi-local - Pittsburgh) bands I ever heard was Billy Price and The Keystone Rhythm Band. Man, those guys had the blues down to a "T". Even the non-blues devotees were "shakin' their legs after about three songs.
John Homerski Jr. - Homer's Army
Formerly with
Fantasy Airlift (Tim Homerski, Andy Rhody, Joe Diederichs, and Me - 1979-1980),
Little Brother (Randy Rutherford, Bill Filer, Jeff Michel, & Me -1981), and Payday (Tom "Shotgun" Sibert, Bill Kibler, John Keck, Benjamin Gerideau, Lou Kopler, & Me - 1985-1992)
(This all sorta sounds like an obituary,,,)

Did Dixi Pig turn into "GUNNER" around 1975? Those guys were great. I had the pleasure of jamming with Bob Gates in Forces for 3 years.Hawk wrote:Dixi Pig, with Bill Fyler, Dick Vaught and Bob Gates.
Any band with Craig Albright.
Colors. Many local talanted misicians, Dave Vallani, Rick Cornet. Ken Civils, Daryl Davies, Jeff Cronover. I can't think of all of them.

Slammer (the Todd Giornesto years)
Fatal Maim
High Voltage
Rapid Fire
Ice
Ripchord (played the Penn State circuit circa 1982-83)
Nitro
Bashful
Defiance (although Bashful and Defiance still "sort of" live on today via Scream)
I could actually list a ton of names, but I'll pinpoint two bands who will never be able to fully get back together because of key members no longer with us...
Queen Bee & the Blue Hornet Band ("Queen Bee" Tonya Browne R.I.P.)
Edge Of Sundown/Station House Band (Don Ruzzi R.I.P.)

Yes, the Hawk and the Wolf should do this. Maybe when Bill Filer plays at the U.S. Hotel? If you could drag Bob out, that would be too much. You'd have to hear all about our rockstar (lol) exploits in his 1962 Cadillac. Well, the ones we can remember, anyway.Hawk wrote:Lonewolf. We should get together over a cold beer and reminisce. I think you're right about Gunner, We'd have to ask Bob.

I saw some of you mentioned Necrecedia...in case anyone's interested, Scott is now in a band based in Oakland, CA called October Allied. www.octoberallied.com
Off-Topic a bit... stay tuned for Altoona's newest rock sensation, Banana Fandango, and her hit song about partridges rotating in circles. She debuted at Peter C's last night (SideStep opened her show) and the Professor was there to capture it on digital media. Pictures coming soon. She dresses a lot like Jimi Hatt/ G-Funkulonimbus, except she looks good.

Kevin, you beat me to it with the Xeno comment. They were awesome. Including the early editions before Randy, Tim, and Paula.

Homerski, I remember Randy reminiscing about "Little Brother".

HURRICANES Ive been going to see these guys for 14 years now and every show is a new experience, this is one band ill never get tired of watching, raw, in your face, mind blowing, Rock&Roll! As far as bands that i wish were still together ,BOX these guys were an original band from state college if you get a chance listen to the album down to my lucky its one of my top ten favorite albums. Dead Reckoning was mentioned also a very kick as original power trio in the early 90s. OSP,OH DID I mention my old band The Cosmic Lounge?and does anybody remember Magdalenes Clubhouse?! we used to play at spikes pub on sundays around 91-92
Toona Rock guy mentioned Inside out, they were great in there original version. I was 19 in '91 ( maybe early 92 ) and we opened for them one night and I had never heard them before, I though we kicked ass then they come out with this EXTREMELY dramatic intro and I remember just watching in awe feeling very humble. They were the first band to show me how its done.
Don't bitch to me about the economy while you're still buying Chinese products.
