Just wanted to know.. How many people really care about local live music in Philipsburg?
Over 300 flyers were put out and the bands who played knew in advance of two weeks about the gig.
We only had 28 people who paid to see the show. Great bands, but no draw.
This building was a dream of mine for years, as a younger player who refused to play covers refused To be a human jukebox it was never about the money for me.
I would have killed and help promote to have a place like this to play In my younger days.
It has now become a burden to try to keep this place up..
Without some feed back from the people I did this for the most
All agers and the bands .. I can't see bleeding myself for another year
Or asking bands to play for less then 50 bucks after driving 100 miles .
I need E-mails from you, To tell me how to keep this alive or let me know what you want from Chrome Cult.
I need to see a draw of 65 for the next gig and Input from YOU!!!
To keep this going

I admire what you're doing but all original music is a hard sell to any crowd. People want to hear stuff they know. Most ( club ) bands throw their originals in between covers. Some clubs ( like Seacrets in Ocean City ) don't even allow originals because they know what draws.
Good luck and I hope the Philipsburg all agers support you.

Any number of factors could have played into the low attendance. The holiday weekend might have had a lot to do with it; you may have been competing with family get-togethers, holiday shopping, people being out of town, reunions and other stuff going on. The over-21 establishments usually have to deal with that on holiday weekends, too.
Also, how frequently do you run shows? It might be good to put some space in between shows, because people tend to take them for granted if they're going on all the time. Spacing out the shows leaves the fans "wanting more," so they're more likely to come out when a show is happening. Also, if you are in touch with a lot of different bands with various musical styles, mix up the types of shows, so you're attracting several different groups of music fans and can tap from a wider range of following.
Sometimes things like this take some time to build and develop. Keep working on building it gradually and steadily, one fan at a time. Get people coming to shows to sign an email list, and keep them updated on upcoming shows.
I only recently learned of your facility, and would be interested in checking out some shows there. Keep posting upcoming shows here on Rockpage as one of your ways of getting the word out.
This region needs all ages venues, so I applaud what you are doing. Good luck!

i agree with JP.
I think it might need some more publicity. i know i've talked to some kids from phillipsburg clearfield area about your place and they had know clue what i was even talking about. i don't know, you might want to try talking to JP and get yourself an ad on the backyard rocker or something. You might wanna get ahold of the underground TV gang and let them know your doing this, maybe Pa xposure? i don't just giving some ideas you might have already done all of these.

I've always been surprised by the attendance at the Rowland when they throw a show. I've been wanting to check out Chrome Cult, but I had a gig on Saturday. I'm not into the whole bar scene; if it weren't for being a gigging musician, I probaly wouldn't attend clubs very much. I'd much rather prefer going to see a show at an all-age establishment.
At least it's something positive for our youth to do. This whole area has nothing to do. If you want something to do on a Saturday night, State College is the only place with anything interesting.

One question - how big is your place? If it is a decent sized place and you're trying to be known as an all age venue, try bringing in smaller national acts(that are well known) and let local original bands play there. This will not only give locals a chance to play, but it'll also get your place known. If this works and you make money than you'll only need to be open on days that you have the shows. For example: Jimmies Chicken Shack = $3000 or Skid Row is about $5000. I'd give this a try before, one last shot before shutting down. We have sooooo many venues suitable for national acts, but nationals don't getted booked. All these venues books are cover bands - we have enough cover bands. For example if I owed Shooters in Johnstown I'd have at least one National a month if not more. Dougherty's in Johnstown is pleanty big for a Nationall act. These are just place that I feel could do better with nationals. Give it a try. I just saw Dope, Motograter, and Twisted Method. Tickets were only $13.00. So after making some profit from the tickets and paying the bands (probably about $6000 total) you could make a nice penny off of a national act. Plus the show was all ages and the older crowd was ID'd and able to drink, so there is more profit for you from alcohol sales.

Bring the mosh
I must say that I really appriciate what your doing for this rock
community. It really blows that you opened this great venue and nobodies
comming. I have that same prob here in SHIPPENSBURG I put shows on to
usually 4 to 5 bands, distribute flyers advertize on the radio and tell
everyone but its hard to get people out when they'd rather be getting
fucked up. Plus I dont know what the scene is like there in Phillipsburg
but I can honostly say I didn't know about it till i saw this post. I
checked out your site for the next show it didnt give a date just time
and what bands so you might wanna be specific. You should def hit up all the schools and the malls to
distribute flyers, contact all the local music DJs at surrounding
universities give them "free tix" to give away to the kids... enlist some of
the younger kids that come to the shows more frequently to join a
"street team" to promote at the high schools and the middle schools.
Kids are really persuaive and willing to get involved and be a part of something special nad unique givem some stickersa t-shirt or hat and tell them to give out the flyers. I promise you'll see a difference, you just have to make the effort to get them involved in something they can be proud of and have a feeling of acceptance and they will bring the mosh#@^%#@
I'm gona come see a show really soon! now that i know ur there.
Hope this helps Cheers Aleesha

...as far as national bands, you could try some punk bands like the Eyeliners and Ann Beretta... they get decent draws around the 'Burgh... and I garuntee they're not as expensive as Skid Row....

www.annberetta.com
Where exactly is Phillipsburg? I'd love to volunteer Gasoline Dion to come play there... but I don't think we'd help with the drawing people in, since we're unheard of & out of town. We do work real cheap though... and we just wanna have a good time. We could bring some friends on a road trip with us though!
Also... try Omegalord out of Philly... www.omegalord.com ... those guys are awesome. I mean awesome.
