Floyd Rose Questions??

Post by cucuplex96 »

Yes against better judgement i bought another trem guitar..

My question is.. when I am changing my strings.. do I have to do it a certain way... cause the trem is set up perfectly and I dont wanna mess it up.

and after I get the strings on.. is there an order of which strings to tune first.. could someone give me a detailed walkthrough on this please.

Please help

This is how I do it & it works pretty well (as long as you're not changing string gauge or changing to a different tuning)- First unlock the nut then replace the low E string & tune that string, stretch it a little and retune. Next move onto the A and so on, changing each string one at a time and tuning as you go. This should keep the trem from getting too far out of whack and spending a ton of time chasing it to get it back in tune. After you have them all changed lock the nut, retune & rock out. If you have to remove all the strings to oil or clean the fret board just stick some cardboard, stack of business cards, rag, etc under the back of the trem (under the fine tuners) before you remove the strings. This will keep the trem somewhat level so when you restring you won't have so far to pull and retune to get you back where you started. Hope that makes sense.

Ask Kenny; I torture my Floyd. Up; down sometimes reallly vicously... I mean it gets a serious workout. Like he said one string at a time with the exact same guage; but the key is properly stretching the strings once they are on. Terry (GuitarsnStuff) taught me this; because of all ppl I was the most reluctant to even own a guitar with a bar. Now I own 3 that are all floating in the most bizarre tuning (tuned to The Letter M LOL!)

is it a licensed copy or an original?

U may experience certain probs like I did when using a copy; like it not returning the whole way. That was a serious issure I ran into. Or an individual string may need a shim at some point. I replaced mine with originals for those two reasons...

LOL... I used to think that way too. But they are not that hard; its all just springs vs strings

Thanks for the tip Ken, I usually change the strings one at a time, but never thought of shimming the bridge if I'm taking all of them off.

Phil;

if u can eff it up its not perfect. I mean that sincerely. A "perfect" floyd setup will retain its qualities until a spring gets worn out, string breaks; or the pivot points wear out on a licensed copy.
