So... I rented the Hendrix video the other day and I gotta say, BIG disappointment. Anyone see it yet? I can't even remember the name of the jackass they had playing Jimi but he definitely did not do the part justice. They didn't even take any time to make it look like this idiot could play the guitar, let alone jam like the master! Even Ralph Machio looked like a guitar god with the help of Ry Cooder (crossroads)!
They would've done better getting Lenny to play the part... Any thoughts?
Hendrix??

I liked it. Then again, I really wasn't expecting an oscar winning performance either. Wasn't it a direct-to-video release? I thought the actor did a good job of portraying Jimi's manuerisms and such. Though they messed up with Noel Redding. They had him playing a sunburst Precision when Noel was best known for playing a sunburst Jazz Bass. (just a little musician's nitpick
)
I wonder if they were denied the rights to Hendrix's music. If you noticed, every song that was performed was a cover (All Along the Watchtower, Like a Rolling Stone, Wild Thing, Hey Joe, ect.) or a generic blues jam (like when he was playing with Cream). Also, the guitar tracks were obviously not Jimi.

"He's the electric horseman, you better back off!" - old sKool making a reference to the culturally relevant 1979 film.
It was a direct to video release. I was wondering about the songs too and yes it was obvious that it wasn't Jimi's pickin'... I'm not even sure if they used a voice over for the tunes. I just had hoped that for doing a film on one of or perhaps even Rock Guitars biggest icon that they would have at least tried to get someone that could at least fake the finger positions on the fret board!
