My awesome 40th birthday weekend.

Post by Ron »

Well I fnally hit the big 4-0 this past Sunday, so I spent the weekend in a cabin in the Poconos, and on Monday got strapped into a 600HP stock car to do 8 laps around the 2.5 mile Pocono speedway (with nobody in the car but me).

It was incredible... my top speed? 175... as fast as the car would go before the rev limiter kicked in. I think the best part was accelerating out of the turns. You start getting on the gas before the apex of the turn, so as you go from the middle to the end you have all of the side-load g-forces hitting you, but those cars stick like glue so you can just keep hammering the throttle all the rest of the way through.

How many times did I touch the brakes? Once... when I stopped at the end of the 8 laps.

Now I'm a new-born horsepower junkie with a new birthday tradition. Guess I had better change my sig!
... and then the wheel fell off.

Happy Birthday Ron!!! Thats cool you got to take the stock car for a ride. one thing i want to do is take a indy car for ride even if its just 10 seconds imagine how fast you can get that little damn car up to it those 10 seconds or even how many donuts you could do in just ten seconds, anyways happy birthday ron

Haha Esa... no there wasn't a stereo in the car, though something like Rammstein slammin' in the helmet would have been cool. The only sounds I remember were V8 related.

Oobie... I think they do a similar thing with indy cars, but only for a ride along in a special 2-seater.

Hmmmm. I wonder what it costs to build and run a dirt sprint car?

 Ha! You have finally joined the ranks of the slowly slowing down crowd!! Happy birthday Ron! When I turned 47 I did a few laps on a lawn tractor and nearly wet my pants! Fortunately, I had my Depends on.

Happy Birthday Man!!!!!

It kinda makes me wonder... how many on here are over the age of 40, how many are in their 30's, how many in their 20's and REALLY, how many are younger than that?!?!? (I guess that should be another thread!)
