My Morley Tremonti Wah, I love it. It's switchless, so I don't have to worry about stomping on it to turn it on and off. I've used Crybaby wah's before, and they're good, but I'll take my Morley over a crybaby any day of the week.
Pour me another one, cause I'll never find the silver lining in this cloud.

I don't have experience with a lot of bass wahs, but I'm really digging my Wilson (www.wilsoneffects.com). It's kind of boutique-y but without the crazy price tag of some boutique pedals. It's still a few dollars more than a Dunlop, though. The customer service is good as well. The owner sent me a personal email right after I placed the order, telling me when he was planning on shipping out my pedal.
It's true bypass and is absolutely clean. old sKool and I put it through some paces one night and we didn't detect any tone colorization or noise. You can get the bass wahs with a six position or a twelve position Q control (I got the six position). I assume the guitar wahs have the same options. Also, you can get an option called vintage wiring, which from what I understand, is more similar to a classic Crybaby.

kinda digging the stanly clark wah from ebs. i don't have one, cuz a wah just isn't something i think i'd use enough, although, i've seen the wilson wahs that paul was talking about, and they do have an attractive price. maybe i could figure out when and where to use it...

The wah I've liked best overall...is just the simple one that was on a
Line 6 Express pedal. Nowadays, I used a normal, straightforward Dunlop
Crybaby.
It's been fine, though I've been meaning to adjust the sweep on it for a
couple of years. The one thing I wish it had, and may put in someday,
is a little light to know when it's on/off. Ya, can hear it, but there are times
when it's at a point where things don't sound "right" but not totally obvious.
Rare...but happens.
I have this OLD, blue Russian wah a from friend from Britain several years
ago. Sounds cool, is HUGE, but needs some work (New pot, etc.).
Have heard good things the Morleys as well. Am going to look into those
Wilsons.

Dude, that's got to be a killer Wah!...I'm jealouslonewolf wrote:A 1968 Vox Crybaby, made in Italy, #0036 with the stack of dimes inductor & Icar pot.
I bought it from a co-worker in the mid 80s for $20.

...For me, it's the Budda Wah hands down...True bypass, clean, incredibly musical and so vocal like.

I like it a lot. I guess you could say that its the one that most of the others are trying to sound like.Merge wrote:I bet that's a nice wah, lonewolf.
I did a few reversible mods and carefully stashed the original parts:
1. true-bypass and associated on/off gain match up.
2. moved the Q frequency slightly lower to enhance wah for the lowest notes. There is no audible difference with the high notes.
3. lowered the frequency of the wah circuit's input coupling HPF for a subtle but noticeable bass boost. This also thickens lower midrange notes a bit. Just a bit.
Small polystyrene capacitors were (and still are) only readily available in values up to .01uF (which is what they used). Had they been available in larger values, the original designers might have designed the Crybaby with something a little closer to #2 & #3. All I did was put 2 caps in parallel in both places for higher values.

pedal
After much thought ???
Gas pedal-without it I'd have to walk to gigs which would cut into the amount of gear I'd be able to use.
In all Honesty though,You can go through years of pedals,or just throw all of 'em out and practice learning to play better.
Get books full of songs .Learn as much as you can.Watch other musicians play, and ask them for hints.
Study theory.
If I can only choose one I'd say a TUNER!

Re: pedal
agreed. i think a guitar sounds best plugged straight into an amp. no bullshit.Ronnyd wrote:In all Honesty though,You can go through years of pedals,or just throw all of 'em out and practice learning to play better.

i think wah and delay are two "must have" effects for guitar. maybe not for blues... but even still, a good wah is invaluable. if only given the choice on guitar of which to have out of the two, i'd go with wah every time. yea, guitar sounds great straight into the amp and everything, but for leads, a wah just adds that something extra.

I've been using a Dunlop 535Q for several years and really like it. That Wilson that Paul just picked up is killer! Totally quiet and no tone colorization. I've heard good things about those Buddas too. Maybe I'll have to swipe Dax's when he's not looking ha, ha!
