Got Dish?

Post by bfoust »

Anyone have Dish network? If so, what programming package do you have, and are you satisfied with it? Is it better than cable?

I've had Dish Network, Direct TV, and Comcast cable over the last few years and I definitely have to say that Comcast is the best. I get my tv, internet, and phone all bundled together at an awesome price. The cable internet kicks ass and the DVR i got through them is sweet. When i finally got rid of my old crt tv a few months back and got a LCD I found out that with a hdmi cable I get HD and it is totally free. Once you get HD theres no going back. I sound like a comcast sales rep lol.

I am switching from dish to direct. If your looking for HD and DVR direct has the best prices for what you get. Direct has more HD channels for less money. I'm paying about $98 a month with dish with 200 channels and about 45 HD (no dvr's if I add 2 the cost goes up $10). With dish I will 200 channels 2 HD boxes with DVR and about 100 channels on HD for $93 a month before the rebates. For the first year I will pay$53 a month but I have been scheduled for install 3 times now!! They have been running out of HD DVR boxes!

If you have Verizon make sure you check if you can get FiOS. If you can that is the way to go! If you have Verizon home phone Direct has a deal with them too, after your install call Verizon and they will add it to your phone bill and knock off $15 a month ( I didn't add that in to the numbers I gave)

Cable for me was bad! I'm at the end of a run so the signal with cable was really bad. I had them out to look at it and they told me they had to put a sign booster on the pole but the booster cost too much and they would not do it. So I called dish and got DSL ( till they offer FioS)

Holy shit, I was reading you post and the whole time I was thinking, "this guy HAS to work for Comcast." But I totally agree with your HD assessment, it's like going black, you never go back. My mother in law has Dish, and she got the "HD" package, and she hates it, she doesn't even get local channels in HD, which is sad cuz that's all I get in HD (I only get over the air transmissions with "bunny ears")

DTV has a lot of issues with their HD equipment. Constnt signal loses and un-reliability ... And weather makes the signal go out al the time ..

I would stick with cable. You do get better results.

The thing with cable is: we're getting a lot of video freezes, price is high and keeps getting higher, and you can't customize the package. It's like: basic, premium, and HD.. i mean cmon.. i don't need all these channels but i want more than the damn locals...

I have Direct TV, shit pile o' HD channels. All the movie channels in HD. NFL package for games. And, yea it's expensive, but I have no problems with mine and the HD quality is fucking amazing. I've had people tell me my HD was better looking than their cable HD, but that could be the TV as well.

I've had DTV for about 2 years now and maybe lost signal twice during some pretty bad storms. I recently got an equipment upgrade including a new dish and I haven't had one lost signal since. Dunno know if that's because of the new dish. The wind storm from a few weeks ago didn't even cause a blink.

On the rare occasions that I have lost signal, I've taken that as a sign from God that I need to get off my ass and do something productive.

DVR rocks, PPV rocks, I'm very satisfied.

I had Dish Network for about 10 years and loved it. I switched to DirecTV a few football seasons ago to get the NFL Sunday ticket. My wife and I weren't as much a fan of Directv as we were Dish at first, but now I think we like it better than Dish. DirecTV is definitely cheaper than Dish.

I have Dish Network. I've had if for about ten years and overall I'm satisfied. However, they are constantly changing programming, switching channels around, adding shitty channels making people think that they are getting more for their money, etc. When I signed up had had the Top 150 package. I think it's now called the Top 200 package or something in the 200s. I'm also now paying a lot more for this package. What is now the Top 150 or so package is what I used to be paying for my original Top 150 package...following this?!

However, as of late, Dish is starting to suck. My reception is always struggling, the programming flashed in and out, or at times just goes off air and has to find the signal...frustrating.

I have an original receiver as old as a dinosaur! Well, on an recent invoice we noticed a message claiming we were "eligible" for an HD Receiver upgrade for free. FREE MY ASS! I called cause I knew this receiver was around $75 to purchase and swap with an old receiver. When I got customer service they searched my records and sure enough I could get a FREE receiver. So, I said sign me up. He now starts to tell me that it is $4.99 a month additional fee to LEASE this new receiver. I knew that and I was fine with that. My bill would now be around $75 after all the bullshit add on fees. I'm still on board for this deal. He then asks me if I want to pay another $10.00 a month to RECEIVE THE HD PROGRAMMING! Wait, I can get an HD receiver, but, but, but...I HAVE TO PAY FOR THE HD BROADCASTING?! Yes, you can get the HD receiver but it's old school broadcasting. No HD signal will be sent to that receiver unless you pay for the HD signal. WHAT A BULLSHIT SCAM! I told the guy that this is a bait and switch scam and it was a bunch off bullshit making people pay that much extra for HD signal. He agreed with me and I hung up the phone. I would have been paying almost $100 a month for a "FREE" HD RECEIVER with HD programming!

GO WITH COMCAST IF YOU CAN! I can't get cable so I'm stuck with Dish.
