Bands beware...

Post by Timicide »

Peter C's will rip you off! Tonight my band, Martyrdom, played a show at Peter C's or should i say two songs beacuse of some crap that there was a noise violation but to our surprise no cops showed up. I was always under the assumption you'd be warned before a fine but i guess since the bullshit before Peter C's will not hesitate to rip you off in order to save being fined. But that wasn't even really the bad part of the night. The guy running the door ripped us off money and to boot the 100 bucks that we thought we were getting went to 50 bucks for the soundman and 50 bucks for PA rental which Big John never told us about. It was a bunch of bullshit so in the future if you plan on playing Peter C's beware of all the bullshit that may and will go on.

That $100 thing is their policy. All of the bands encounter that. You can actually save $50 if you bring your own sound guy, but you still pay the $50 for the PA usage. Sorry to hear you got yanked after traveling all that way.

all we know is that we made two trips from johnstown to altoona(one for flyers, and one for the actual show) and got $3 after the door guy ripped us off....

this venue sucks....i dont give a shit what anyone thinks....they have bullshit policies and treated us like shit when people were into us and cheering....

it's like my wife said though, jaybird...what do you expect from altoona's version of Woodsy's....

Sorry to hear of your bands misfortune. I've played at Peter C's a couple times with other bands when I was with my old band. We always received a good reaction from the crowd but when I tried calling there 25 or so times to get a show on our own, I realized that Big John had no interest in having our band or even returning my phone call. Funny thing now is I got an e-mail a while back from Big John to caLL him about booking my new band, Stone Krow, well guess what? I ignored the e-mail because WE'RE NOT INTERESTED!! Aldo's has been the only place around Altoona that has ever been fair to me no matter what band I was in, my hat's off to Aldo for being a great business man and keeping his word. He's the only one I'll do business with in that area. Good luck guys.

yes, kudos for aldo...he has us there all the time, gives us no problems about paying and we bring him national acts in return...he also has no problems with contracts or anything really business oriented...and he tells you about all expenses when you talk about money, not when you're there and it's too late to renegoiate

jaybird, im a subway hater too...it almost makes you miss Woodsy's

We play at Aldo's every month and I love playing there. He is very fair when it comes to paying the bands. I have a great time playing there, and I love seeing bands there. I think a lot more people ought to start checking his place out. Peter C's, I don't think so.

The Grimm has been playing Peter C's for nearly 5 years and have NEVER had a bad experience there , the $100.00 sound thing is the way it's been there since the house system went in, we always bring our own guy and save $50 we also always bring our own door guy it just seems like a good idea to do that when it's your $$ being handled... I am sorry my brothers that you had a bad night and I am also sorry that you feel the way you do about Pete's , Big John has offered us a venue to play our originals since day 1 and he's been the only one in Altoona to do that consistantly, as a matter of fact Aldo has never given us a show the only way we can get in there is to go with another band as an opener I'm sure he is a nice guy but The Grimm has never been an Aldo's band, anyway as an original act I can tell you that burning bridges is a BAD plan ,it's tuff enuff just to keep things rollin without that.

I had a bad experience at pete's. I played there one time after for a benefit show and thats it. I'm not going to down talk his buisness or his bar, but I can say that is a place I won't ever be in the rest of my life. If you don't like it don't go there. Thats what I do.

That is one of those places that it's best to know what to expect going into it. And this (the rockpage) is the best place to gather that knowledge. Check with us about the next club in the area you play at for the first time. I know i have a list of good and bad and places that have weird quirks. Some you learn the hard way and others you find out from other bands. Good luck

That $100 thing is their policy.
I'd give them $100 for the 10-year-old EVs on the ceiling and only charge $50 to haul away all that junk in the sound booth. lol

I'd like to add that I never had a bad experience playing at Peter C's, although I haven't played a paying gig there since the stage was in the back and you brought your own PA.

My old band Ozone got screwed there as well. The $100 policy has changed everytime Rennis played there. 1st time we didn't have to pay the $100. next time we paid $50 for their sound guy(that's fair). The last time the door guy ripped us off, we brought our own sound guy and they tried to make us pay the full $100. After some argument we ended up paying for the PA rental $50. All this after we were told we would be paid $100 plus the door. No mention of PA rental or soundguy. I'm not crying about it that's just the facts. I just think the way we were treated was bogus and we have decided not to play there because it is not worth our time and money.
