All of the usual South Beach Wannabe's wearing their man blouses and Paris Hilton style sunglasses are starting to invade all the cool locals places. The local paper quotes "Miami is now the place where you break records, because people come here to party. New York's not like that no more. That's why New York is here."
I've never been one for South Beach, usually I'll head down when some friends from up north are in. (Take a Portage Kid to South Beach.....Good Times!) But what kills me is that the majority of the live music venues are now having $100 - $200 cover charges and are having DJ's for this weekend. Blaaaaaagh. I can't stand this MTV generation. The only place down south that's having a live group of musicians is Rok Bar, they're having Jett.....$1200 a table. Looks like I'll be heading to the Hollywood Beach Clam Bake to see a garaunteed good show......DICK DALE BABY! And it's FREE!
Sorry, a big rant, but for my topic..... Whatever happened to the Guitar showmen??? I mean, I'm a bass player turned rhythm guy, but there's really no superstar guitarists anymore....
Hammett has been silenced in Metallica (No Solos in St. Anger?)
Clapton still around but doing nothing spectacular
Kenny Wayne Shepard never caught on
What's goin on here?
