Instrument swapping

Post by grimmbass »

What instrument would you play if you had to give up your current instrument? If I had to give up bass, I think that I'd probably take up keys....

I'd give up playing guitar....and my little finger if I could sing like a mofo.

My dream is to be awsome at bass, sing like a mad man, and rock on keyboards like Geddy, but that ain't gonna happen in this lifetime.

If I would choose another instrument to play, I would pick up a touch style instrument like a Chapman Stick, Warr guitar, or Mobius Megatar. With one of those things, you can play a complex bassline and lead at the same time if you're good enuff! If youv'e never seen/heard of touch style instruments, I highly suggest you check 'em out. If I couldn't get the hang of one of those thingys, I go with a slide or lap steel guitar like my man Robert Randolph. Either way, I would stay within the boundaries of the strings.

Ditto! The voice is the most awesomist instrument.

Otherwise, it'd be saxophone. It's so smooth, sexay, and expressive!

Pedal steel or fiddle. I've tried both... neither "took."---->JMS

If I had to give up bass, I would probably take up the keys and other sampling media. And turntables... If I switched, I would want to do all these things at the same time.

hmmm..... how to approach this one....

I've been a drummer since I was 15, but I don't play them much anymore, so that's not really my "current" instrument, though it's probably the one I am best at.....

I sing nowadays, but not as well as I would like - of course, I would LIKE to sing as well as Geoff Tate, but who wouldn't? :P

I play a little guitar, but not much, so I guess if I had to give up one of the first twwo, I would choose to be a kick-ass guitar player - always thought it must be so incredibly cool to be able to improvise and wail and express oneself like Stevie Ray or Clapton, or Vai............

cool topic............. :D

I am a singer so I would love to be able to play ANY instrument. I've tried, I don't think I've tried hard enough. I can't seem to find the time to devote to learning anything and I get frustrated too easily, no dexterity whatsoever and no natural ability. But if I had my way piano first, then guitar.

Who than Dave would be better teacher for you? Heck, you probably wouldn't have to pay for lessons either. heh If I had the money, I'd want to be taking lessons from him.

I know, I know. If we could quit our jobs and solely dedicate time to me learning then fine. I"m not sure either of us have the patience, we may just end up on Judge Judy battling it out for who is going to pay for the broken baby grand. He has watched me try to play guitar and he thinks no on that instrument for me, he thinks my hands are too small. I think he is just looking for a nice way to say, "you don't have a chance in hell." ha ha! Piano though, I think there may be a chance there. Maybe around retirement age, I can find the time to learn to play, lol! I also had a two minute instruction on the harp, came back an hour later and played it for him and he laughed. So, I think he is too advanced to be my teacher because he thinks I should just pick it up like second nature like it is for him. With someone other than his wife, I think he would be great teacher. He knows he can get away with blowing me off, lol! I've been trying to talk him into giving lessons out of our living room. I'll put you down on the list for the first guinea pig, if it ever happens!
