Thoughts of you

Post by GUITARII »

Hey all...

I had a bit of a scare this weekend that put all of you in mind. My little sister and her fiance "T-Boned" a guy after leaving the Knickerbocker early Sunday a.m. Her fiance got the D.U.I., closed head injury, some minor chemical burns.... She sustained a severe laceration down the middle of her skull and some minor bruising.... they both walked away from it. The car is totalled, the other driver.... no injuries. They were lucky!

I'm certainly not trying to preach to anyone, I just want to remind you all to be careful out there.... you've got plenty of folks that need you in their lives. I've gotten behind the wheel plenty of times when I shouldn't have, but this has certainly made me rethink any future outings. I guess it always does when it's close to home.

Peace, prayers and heartfelt love to you all when your out on the scene!

Seriously!

Heya Dan, glad to hear everyone was OK.

I too had a bit of a wake-up call this past weekend. Within the past month, I had been thinking more and more about giving up the bottle for a while, if not for good. While I was never a major alcoholic or anything, I couldn't help but keep thinking how alcohol definitely never brought me any good in life, and how I had always been fortunate not to ever have been involved in any accidents, nor had I ever had a drinking-related fine. At 33, after drinking pretty regularly for over half my life, the thought that my luck would run out soon in one way or another kept crossing my mind.

So, Saturday night, I didn't drink. I had to run over town around midnight, and lo and behold, the flashing blue and reds were in my rear-view. I got pulled over, and got a verbal warning for a shot license plate light, and for not completely stopping at a stop sign. If I had been drinking like I would have normally been doing at this time on a Saturday night, I would have been busted.

This wasn't something quite as serious as a wreck, for sure, but still rather significant to me, as I thought about how much a DUI would have totally wrecked my life at this point. I would have lost my license, and in turn, my job. Not the kind of thing I'd want to be putting my wife and 3 kids through, when things are tough enough as it is.

Hopefully, I can stay off the shit, avoid the danger, and start devoting more time to my kids, and music. :)

Oh my God.

I just read the post. Dan, you'll see them probably before I will. Tell them that I hope they have a speedy recovery and that I will be thinking of them.

Thanks Jamie.... I will.

Staceman... those same thoughts have been running through my head as well. I too have three young ones at home and at 32 am thinking I've run the gammut too often. I always "paced" myself for the most part, especially when playing out of the immediate area, so that I would be "alright" driving home. At this point though I think I'm going to try sticking to H20 during the job or making sure I have a DD with me.... I just have way to much to lose!

My only fear with sobriety during the job is that I might not like what I hear!

Good thread, Dan. A friend of mine is now sitting in prison because he killed his best friend in a DUI accident. His 5 years in prison is going to be a cakewalk compared to the lifetime he'll have to spend, dealing with the fact that he killed his best friend.

Staceman: That's great that you didn't get busted. Sometimes I think life is simply a set of random events, and teleology doesn't exist; but then something happens that seems to be more than a coincidence and makes me think that it's more than just blind luck. God, thinking about the Chaos Theory can fry one's mind. :P

Yeah.. I found out about it and damn near had a heart attack. The first thing I'm going to do when I see those two is hug them because they're not in coffins. Then I'm going to kick each of their asses for doing that. Not that I haven't done anything like that in my life time.. but still. I don't know. Anyone who knows my number knows that they can kick me out of bed at 3am and I'll come get them. Quite a few have taken me up on that offer as well. I'd rather be yellin at them for taking up my beauty sleep then yellin' at them for leaving me behind as they start the rest of their life out in a wooden box...
I like my drinking.. but I'm a proud DD too.

$10 bucks a piece! A piece of what? Does "roadhead" count as a piece? Is it considered incest? What if we're in West Va, or Bullscreek? :?

  ::sitting in chair for quite some time after reading Lisa's last post.... desk is off kilter.... incapable of standing or walking at this point::

Wait... not to cross posts.... but if a good orgasm causes you to get sleepy, you could say the affects of it could inhibit your driving ability, right? Does this mean I can't get "roadhead" anymore, or that I shouldn't be telling my doctor about it?

The night before Hurricane Charlie was supposed to hit Key West, I got completely bombed out of my mind. I found out the next morning that I very voluntarily gave up my keys to Kenny because he was way more sober than me. Thank God the hurricane didn't directly hit us either. If anyone saw the pass of the storm, it detoured right around us and we're really lucky for that. When I woke up, I sat in the stairway of the condo we were staying at to watch the hurricane pass. Talk about an experience!!

::grins:: Nah man, just means that you need a designated road head receivee now. And I volunteer myself out for this. Anyone who was to receive road head, contact me. I'll take it in your stead so that you safely drive home. That reminds me...banging the driver...while in a moving vehicle is not safe! ...::whisper:: but it sure is fun!

Good for you John! I'm proud you handed them over and I'm even happier you didn't become tornadoed road kill. Jae and I were worried you'd have problems down there with the weather. Glad to hear nothing serious got ya!

The eye of the hurricane was 70 miles west of Key West and was only a 2. By the time it hit the main land, it became a 4. I'll never know why it decided to go right around the island, but I'm not going to complain about it either. All I can do is just count my blessings and thank God that it didn't directly hit us.
