Girls Gone WIld...scam...be careful!
Girls Gone WIld...scam...be careful!
Ok...anyone else order a GGW video thinking it would be neat to see what all the hype is about...I'm guilty. So I ordered at the 2 for $9.99 rate. Not a bad deal. Well then every month they send you another video for $24.99. So I call today to say...STOP my subscription I'm really not into these videos. This girl pulls my account and says, "OK, we're cancelling you subscription, but the first video of the 8 pack in our hard core penetration series is already in route to you at a rate of $9.99per dvd instead of $24.99 - that is just too much for you to pay sir, so I reduced the charges for you." WHAT...hard core what? This isn't what I signed up for. I was wanting to see college boobies! No hard core 8 pack. I'm baffled at this quick switcheroooo. Before I could ask questions a "verifier" gets on the line and says, "I'm here to verify you cancellation. I say, "ok cancel, but whats this hard core 8 pack deal" His reply, "Let me put you back on the line with the CS Rep. This girl gets back on now with an attitude...I CAUGHT THE SCAM. I say to her, "I never signed up for a hard core 8 pack." She says that because I was on a monthly plan that I was automatically signed up for this...BULLSHIT! She mumbles more(at a speak rate no human could catch) and before I could say anything else I'm transfered back to this "verifier". So now this other lady gets on the phone and after I ask about this 8 pack, she says, "oh you can send all eight back, but you still get two free movies at no charge." I say NO, NO EIGHT PACK, NOTHING. I just want to cancel my monthly thing that you have me signed up for. Here's another catch...you send the dvds back, you credit card still gets charged s/h. I tell her to stop shipment of the 8 movies. Shes asks why and I say that I DON'T WANT THEM. I tell here that I'm not stupid and I know that I'll still have to pay s/h for sending them back. GGW makes a few pennies off of their s/h charge...probably adding up to millions per year actually. So this "verifier" says that she's transfering me back to CS...AHHHHH...just cancel my damn order. No this little bitch gets back on the line and asks with a HUGE attitude, "sir, what seems to be the problem NOW?" I tell her that I'm not paying to send any dvd back and I don't want ANY of the dvds sent to my house. I tell here that I'm aware of their little scam and the s/h charge scam. She quickly says, "fine, consider your order cancelled....CLICK."
Holy crap...no wonder this dude owns his own fleet of air planes, houses out the wazoo, cars we only dream about and he's in his early 30's(if that). They are running a scam. You think that you're cancelling an order and they make you think you're getting free crap...wrong.

Last night, while my "Wing-Eating Think Tank" cohorts and I were devouring wings at Zach's in Altoona (Pelly's was closed), we pondered the question: Why do we see that "Girls Gone Wild" ad come up on the TV every time we sit down to eat wings? Obviously somebody behind it has some bucks for TV advertising. Let the buyer beware...

As of September, I'll be a pyschology major; so it's my job to know about all of these great Freudian fetishes, no matter how shitty it gets.ToonaRockGuy wrote: Paul, it's just downright disturbing that you even know what a scat video is. I worry about you, son.

UPDATE FOR EVERYONE:
"'Girls Gone Wild' Video Sellers Settle with FTC
Fri Jul 30, 9:43 PM ET
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Sellers of the "Girls Gone Wild" videos have agreed to tame their billing practices and pay $1.1 million to settle charges of deceptive marketing, U.S. regulators said on Friday.
California-based Mantra Films Inc. will change practices that regulators had dubbed "deceptive marketing gone wild" in a lawsuit filed last year, the Federal Trade Commission said.
The FTC had charged that Mantra improperly enrolled customers in "continuity programs" that resulted in monthly shipments of DVDs and videos they did not request.
The videos, marketed in late-night infomercials on television, feature college-age girls showing their breasts. They have been hugely successful, with tens of millions of copies sold.
In its lawsuit against Mantra, the FTC said that since 2000, customers who ordered a single video from Mantra were sent videos each month and had their credit or debit cards charged until consumers took action to stop the shipments.
Among other things, the settlement requires Mantra to disclose clearly the terms of sales programs before enrolling customers, and to get written authorization for recurring electronic withdrawals from a customer's checking account, the FTC said.
The penalties consist of $548,392 to be repaid to customers and a $541,235 civil penalty, the FTC said. "
