Very nice sir!JackANSI wrote:I'm getting about 26mpg on the tune there now to 30-31 if I refrain from passing and run the lean burn map (afr of 15.2:1 and 6 degrees more advance) on the ecu.
Last I had my Maverick out I was getting about 6mpg yes, six!
Realistically I cannot afford to run it, and it only has a 10 gal tank. Unless I add an aux. tank in the trunk, or take short trips.
So how about dream cars???
Mine - '55 Chevy, 454, 4-speed, flat black.
Basically the car from 2 lane blacktop. I'd prolly give a nut for one.
I have to say though, I wouldn't want it in running order. I think at least half of the fun is fixing/restoring them. I'd build a motor once a week if time/money permitted.

My old man has a 70' SS 454 LS5 convertible. He kept his mostly stock too. It's a true SS as well. He has cragar mags on it though. he put the stock wheels away in the garage, can't say I blame him, the cragars look perfect on the car.Josevo wrote:I have a 70' chevelle SS 396. Its bored .030. Its a 4 speed with a hurst ...took out the muncie just because it didn't shift as smooth. I should post a pic...

dream car? that's easy. Nissan Skyline GT-R R34. I know the new one out performs it, but god do I love the look of it, with it's squared off bulging fender flares, from the front, it looks like a pissed off bulldog, all angry and haunched over ready to attack. Damn, those are some sexy cars! I'd love to have it in Midnight Purple only because it's a very rare color (offered only 1/2 of a year on certain models of R34's). And I'd want it stock so that I could choose how to push it over 1000 WHP and still get about 20 MPG on the highway. (this is of course if money is not an issue.)
If I ever see an amputee getting hanged... I'm just gonna start yelling out letters...

Dream car?...hmmm
My dream car is probably my Maverick no kidding. It has the styling of a Mustang, and it's different than your every day car.
This is not my actual car, but it's very similar, only mine has S/S Cragers on it:

Well #2 would be:

1968-1/2 Mustang GT White with Black "c" stripe and CJ hoodscoop,
428 CJ 4 speed 4:30 detroit lockers
#3:

1970 Torino Cobra Calypso Coral w/ Ram air hood 429 SCJ 4 speed 3:91 detroit lockers

and an L88 Monte?!! Damn I can only imagine how rare that is and how much it's worth!
I cant recall ever seeing one ever.
It's safe to say that 427 sat you back in your seat and got your utmost attention!!

In the 1970's there was the drugs/alcohol and machines like that in the hands of kids, and it was a lethal combination in alot of cases.
Population control more like it!
Glad to see you made it out alive Bobby!

You can pick up two decent sized turbos (16G) for about 800-900 total new. I got two stock turbos (13T, used less than 40K, in perfect working order) for my wrx for 220 shipped on ebay. Was planning on twins for it, but alas not enough room without requiring an oil scavange pump for one of them (to mount near or below the level of oil in the pan).Mikey Wax wrote:I have to say, I've always thought it'd be pretty damn sweet to do a twin turbo setup on my 396. I wouldn't know where to even begin, plus I'm sure I'd have to sell my house and move my family into the car to be able to afford it!!!!!
With carbs you need some kind of enclosure around it to keep the whole carb and its body at boost pressure. Easy if you got a welder.
An intercooler for up front from a Ford powerstroke diesel can come as cheap as 250$ and its as big as most big block radiators. Heck the front mount on my car only cost $350 (new even) with all the clamps, pipes, and mounts to install it.

BMW has electronic limits in most of their non-M's set at 130-155.lonewolf wrote:There's nothing like a speedometer that goes to 160

Best highway miles I ever did was in my friend Matt's 98 M3. I was going 105 and I only 'felt' like I was going 55. Until I started getting closer to other traffic I had no idea I was going that fast.
I should have bought that one last year when I had the chance (only $11,000 in perfect shape!). I just couldn't live with a yellow car...
Dream-cars:
'70 Hemi 'Cuda Four-Two-Six, baby!
'70 Chevelle 396
'66 Corvette Stingray bone-stock
'64 Ford F-100 pickup
'56 Ford F-100 pickup w/later Torino suspension mods
'80's Winnebago LeSharo RV (Renault engine, excellent gas mileage, drives like a large car, not an RV. I met a guy who uses one as a daily driver, no kidding. Comfortable camping for 2 or 3 people, any bigger, and you become a camping hotel for your friends and extended family.

They copied Chevy's V8 design and allowed the new Hemis to run on 4 cylinders when not hoggin the pedal.JackANSI wrote:Hard to believe the charger gets somewhere around 26 too (hwy)
I agree with you on the Police Chargers. After having my Crown Vic Interceptor, I'm hooked on those cars. When I saw that they were making Police Magnums and Chargers, I set a goal to own one. You just can't beat a car with a police package. The little performance mods they do are just enough to pin you in your seat, and the heavy-duty brakes and suspension let you run the car like you stole it day in and day out! On top of that, you scrare the crap out of everyone else on the road, at least in a white Crown Vic w/ a spotlight and dog dish hubcaps! Hopefully the new Chargers will be universally recognized as a police vehicle in the near future.
BTW, my avatar is my '63 T-bird, aka the 'Ratmobile'. Mom coined it that after it got it's flat black base/clear. No major hop ups due to lack of funds and lack of a solid enough car to handle much more than the stock 300 ponies. I had a neighbor rebuild the 390 with a slightly larger cam, and I had duals put on, but other than that, she's just a cruiser. Mmmmmmmmmmm........Ratrods.
Dream cars:
- Lowrider: 71-73 Buick Riviera (Boattail baby!)
- Muscle: I'd be a MOPAR guy if I could afford it!
- 4 Banger: gotta side w/ Mikey Wax on the Lotus Exige. A bare-bones race car for the street. Unfortuantely, the State-side models are running Toyota power plants and drivetrain = Not quite up to par with the real deals in GB. A Lancer Evo IX or X is a close second in this category.
- Exotic: too many to list and not worth wasting my wishes on! (Ok, maybe the McLaren F1 or that 1K+ HP Bugatti Veyron everyone's raving about!)
'bout time someone started a car thread! Kudos Rob

Yeah I've contemplated writing some code to alternate the firing on the WRX to see if its possible to get above 40mpg. Kinda like fire each cyl every other time (every 8 strokes instead of 4). Keeps the wear even, but might make the power deliver seem like a jackhammer. Which is why I have not tried yet. That and its hard to decide on set-points to turn it on and off.MOONDOGGY wrote:They copied Chevy's V8 design and allowed the new Hemis to run on 4 cylinders when not hoggin the pedal.JackANSI wrote:Hard to believe the charger gets somewhere around 26 too (hwy)

I had no idea that Dodge copied Chevy's V8 design. Their new V8 in the vette is absolutely a marvel of engineering. Hope thats the one that they copied

Your cop car scared the crap out of me that time I met you in greenwood. The neighbor had been watching me sit there for about 2-3 minutes then disappeared, 5 minutes after that, I see a cop car... I was a little freaked, I don't really like dealing with cops all that much.
And yes I needed a distraction from the politics. I was getting too involved. I hate it when that happens..
Here's a question for ya Rob...
I'm a youngin, but as far as cars go, I guess I'm kinda old school. ECU adjustments and computers mods scare me! I hate even replacing a blown fuse on a newer car! My question is, what kind of programming do car ECUs use? Is everything written in a 'syntax-based' code like Visual Basic/C++? Or do they have their own automotive language? I'm assuming it's not as simple as machine control PLC ladder logic.
I know you can get those adapter kits that you plug in line with your car's ECU cable that then plugs into any PC. And I'm assuming the included software makes it fairly user-friendly. But, just how easy is it to go in and change your car's parameters to say, adjust your torque curve or shift points? Do cars come with embedded limits so you can't accidentally tell a car's computer to shift at 9K RPMs???
Lastly, is there a standard in the auto industry that allows one of those ECU cable/software kits to work with all post-80s makes and models ranging from Ford & GM to Honda & Nissan to BMW & Mercedes?
