That is really messed up! I can see their theory on doing it, but it should atleast be advertised. I have not seen this first hand,because I pay with cash only when I pump.

Yes this has happened to me also. My wife and I were on our way back from South Carolina. I believe that it was a $0.24 difference in price.
I mean what can you do when you only have plastic and you need to fill up? If I had known that prior, I would have gone to an ATM. It is sickening that this kind of stuff is happening.
You know I also wondered if we are really getting the amount of gas that the pump says we are getting?
I wonder how often they calibrate them? Sometimes when I first start pumping,it seems like it starts off pumping air. Anyone else notice this, or am I crazy?

In most counties in PA you'll see a Weights and Measures certification on the pump. These are performed by the county a minimum of once a year on every pump. I believe they are allowed to be off by 5 on the right most digit. So if you pump a gallon from a pump with 3 digits to the right, it can be anywhere from 1.005 to .995. I also heard that if they charge out to the thousandth on the money side they need to have as many digits to the right on the volume meter.

But that tolerance sounds too tight for me and I'm sure there is post test wiggle room. And with the way I see our governments run, I'm sure wiggle room can be bought directly from the tester.



The way gas pumps work is there is one or two pumps for the whole grade of gas sitting in the storage tanks underground. The "gas pump" isn't a pump at all. That noise you hear when you are pumping gas is a twin piston common axle meter. Potentially a very accurate machine.

Gas is always there right up to the handle and air in the system would definitely burn out the pump in short order.

Places with one hose per pump that dispense 3 or more grades you need to be careful at. If your sport bike or car requires a higher grade, you're getting about .3-.5 gallons of whatever the last guy pumped.

The shell station in Pine Grove Mills is $.10 cheaper per gallon cash. But its been that way since it was put in. Long before all this current stuff happened. The pump is cleary marked with two seperate LCD screens for cash and credit. Recently though I noticed that both are displaying the credit price and when you select cash, the discount shows up.

6 years ago, Walmart put in a new gas station in Lewistown. When they opened they started a huge gas war for like the first month they were open and you could go anywhere around Lewistown and pay just .77 cents per gallon of gas. Regular price at that time was something like 1.47 per gallon. And nobody worried about credit card prices back then ...

Word up, homie. I filled up earlier in the week at Get-Go (Giant Eagle). Had enough on the shopping card to get $2.80 off a gallon, and filled the car with premium for exactly 20 bucks.

This was my best discount at the Get Go... My wife couldn't believe it so she had to take these pictures with her cell phone. We only shop at Giant Eagle and Martins Grocery because they give the discounts.
