Mighty Might bodies/necks ??

Post by Eldorado »

Does anyone have any experience with Mighty Might necks or bodies? Are they as good or close to the ones made by Warmoth? I would expect to have to do a little work to the necks but how is the overall quality?

I played a guitar at a shop that had a Mighty Mite neck on it and it wasn't too bad but felt a bit cheap. Most anything I've ever read on their necks states that they require a fair amount of fret work to get them in shape. They are a far cry from Warmoth. Warmoth is considered one of the top dogs along with Musikraft although Musikraft as of late seems to be having some quality control issues. Allparts makes an ok neck. I just got one recently but had to take it to the shop a couple times to get the frets leveled and dressed properly. The thing was buzzing and fretting out all over the place and required quite a bit of work. No matter what some people say you get what you pay for. Doesn't mean you can't build a good guitar with cheaper parts but it is what it is.

Yeah, that's what I figured. I was looking at options for a few spring projects. I might try out a neck just for the sake of having an educated opinion on the matter down the road. Thanks.

I put a Warmoth neck on my main strat. It needed refretted and I was
taking the locking trem off, so figured I'd finally have my left-handed
necked strat.

It's great, but did need some work to make right. First, it was REALLY
wide and felt like the fat end of a baseball bat.

Took a while to sand it down and get to where I liked it, but it came
out so well, I roughed up the back of the neck on my other to get it to
match.

Mighty Mite used to make good stuff. I'm sure they still do, just might
be the more expensive end of the spectrum. But, can't hurt in checking
it out.

Tell you what though, your Spring projects sound a whole lot more fun
than mine.

I agree with Kenny, I had quite a few Mighty Mite Jackson replacement necks over the last 2 years or so, and they did require some work on the frets, but they weren't all that bad if you have the time to mess with it.

I usually opt to buy used Jackson necks on ebay when I need one for a project.

Warmoth would probably get my vote, especially if you are going for a Strat replacement.
Their neck profiles and frets are pretty much spot on.

Good luck with your purchase.

Well I just got two projects in that are going to take top priority over the Strat project. One is a sweet Music Man bass custom refinish I am tickled about. Other is a Parker P44 refret.. Not as exciting but it should be good for the soul. I'll let you know how those Mighty Might necks look when I get around to ordering a few. I am sure with a bit of love they will be fine.

Glad to find a few guys to talk tech with!!!!!!!!!

Anyone ever try one of the Stew-mac strat necks ?

Was wondering how they compare, price is pretty good.

Tonefight, the older Stewmac parts always seemed cheaply made to me, but nowadays they could be better, I'm not real sure, so I'm not gonna comment.

There's so many companies making copies of Strat parts, that narrowing it down to the good companies can be frustrating sometimes.

I mainly go with reputable and reliable companies like Mighty Mite and Warmoth, as mentioned before, but there are a handful of others out there now as well that are equally as nice in terms of quality, price, and craftmanship.

There's so many variables to consider when ordering a neck, such as fret size, neck profile, wood type, etc....

It's alot easier if you already know the specs that you like when looking.

Musikraft puts out great necks. Pretty much just bolt them on and your ready to go. They are pricy, but worth every penny.

Just a note on all this. I just got an email back from Stew mac, I contacted them wondering where there telecaster bodies and necks were produced. The Bodies they sell are made in Canada and the necks they sell are actuallt Mighty Mite necks ( wich are made in Korea ). I was kinda suprised he gave up that info since I can order the same neck right from Mighty Mite for a little less. All this considered though I could buy a mexican tele for less and change out the pickups and tuners.
