I snapped all the tendons in my right thumb once. They told me I'd have trouble ever being able to hold a pick again. I ignored the doctors advice and rigged the cast so that my thumb would set in a certain way that allowed me to regain 100% use of my thumb. I played a few shows while I was in the cast, but it really wasn't happening. Luckily, my friends Rocker_X and Jeremy were able to sit in for me until I healed. Watching them play was awesome, I was just afraid that they were so good the band wouldn't want me back.

Shattered my left thumb in 4 places  Still can't bend my thumb at the 2nd joint. Had an L shaped plate and 4 screws to help it heal straight, they took the plate out 22 days later. Playing guitar and swinging drumsticks is a painful experience :(

In 1980, I wrecked my motorcycle into a steel-grated bridge head first (no helmet law in IL, and I wasn't wearing one--I guess this lesson is what the E in ABATE stands for). Split my jaw (and parts of my face) in half, broke 3 fingers in my picking hand and had a boutonniere deformity on one of them. Was out of action for awhile, but everything worked OK in about 4 months.

In 1993, I bought a Bengal cat. She got loose and while chasing her, I zigged when I should have zagged, fell and hyperextended the fingers in my left hand. It took almost a year before I could play at 100%.

About 5 years ago, I either bruised or broke some ribs doing a Chevy Chase impression. I had a lot of gigs lined up with the solo show and did one three days later. No problem with guitar, but...take a deep breath (aarrrrghh). Good as new in 6 weeks.

Back in the Old Sebastianos days, Tommy Irwin and I were wrestling around on the ice outside, i slipped and snapped my left pinky finger at the knuckle. Never did go to the hospital but ate a couple icepops and taped up the sticks. That week we were to record Fatal Maims first CD in Ohio at the Recording workshop. I would catch that pinky on the rim of my snare alot till i got used to it. i wish i would have gotten it fixed as its still not right today.

Then about 3 years ago when i was drinking heavy i got a boxer break on my right hand, i played the next couple nights in pain. This still flares up from time to time but i can live with it. Felix said it made my dynamics better anyways.

Scary shit musicians busting up there hands, ya never know.
