The area music scene lost another devoted fan and friend with the passing of Zane Everhart on Monday. Zane was 54.
Zane was a big live music fan, and especially passionate about the blues and R&B. He didn't think twice about booking a hotel room 3 hours away and doing a roadtrip to see a blues, R&B or jazz artist that he liked. I had just seen him this past Sunday at the Hitching Post, taking in a Felix & the Hurricanes show.
Zane was also very well read, and I actually met him as a reader of my article in Pennsylvania Musician. Early on, Zane was one of those people who "kept me on my toes;" he used to be critical of my articles early on; it gave me that added incentive to try to do better, and over the years, Zane became more and more complimentary of my efforts.
Whenever I hear or spin music by Billy Price & the Keystone Rhythm Band (one of his favorites), I'll think of Zane. He'll be missed.

Who knew that Sunday would be the last we see Zane......Man, ill miss him alot and all the rock and roll stories he's told me through the years. His roadtrips to see bands are legendary...He hitchhiked to Watkins Glenn to see the Dead, Allmans and The Band with nothing but his afro, a big bag and his thumb! That concert was bigger than woodstock they said. I heard when he passed he had headphones on in his bed, wonder who he was listening to......Here's to ya bud!
