well i was wondering what a good song would be to audition for jazz band in my school.i play bass and i was thinking of doing the beginning of anesthesia pulling teeth by cliff or a jethro tull song.any recomendations would be nice

Jazz Band? Bass?

Since it's Jazz band, they'll probably be more interested in your ability to read a chart and improvise bass lines rather than being able to rip off any particular song, note-for-note. Demonstrate that you understand harmonic theory and can keep a walking bass line moving. Check out Michael Dimin; he does a lot of cool arrangements of standards that utilize jazz harmonies and walking lines.

Play something you play well. School jazz bands want "good" not "kickass," "brutal," or "raw." Jazz is jazz, man. It's equal parts passion, precision and hip. You own the song, you get the gig. Good luck!-------->JMS

Be sure to use a lot of jazz slang. For example, "That Cliff was one hep cat, daddy-o."

And do a lot of scat singing for bonus points. Google for "scat video"; that will be helpful.

Edit: Please DO NOT Google for "scat video". Of course, saying this will greatly increase the odds that you'll actually try it. Don't. Just dont.
