Aldo's is celebrating 25 years of live music this weekend, with 15 bands playing over the 4-day period Wednesday through Saturday night.
In celebration of this occasion, I thought I'd break out a few vintage pictures from the local music archive, from back in Aldo's early days in the late '80s as a one-room venue, with bands playing in the corner by the front door of the current restaurant room.
From some time in fall of 1987, the Back Street Boyz, featuring Terry Hammel, Rich Ryan, Denny Gibson and Harold Hammel.
From August 22, 1987, Wayne Ellis and Bob Hammond of the Rolling Rockers.
From fall of 1987 when zebra-striped spandex was in vogue, Doug Moudy and Steve Bruce of Saber Tooth.
Also from fall of 1987, Mark Triforo and Scott Imler of The Edge.
From sometime in summer of 1987, Bryan Weimert and Jay Randyll Ketner of Tommi-Gunn. _________________

That's awesome, Jim. I didn't play there until late-summer, '88. I moved here a few weeks later.
Oddly, I could probably count my Aldo's appearances on one hand. I was a Sebastiano's regular. I did SEE a lot of bands there, though.--->JMS _________________ Go see Joe's band. |

That Tommi Gunn pic is where it's at. Bassist looks like Duff from GnR. _________________ Hair Force One: We got your EN_ER_GY right here!

Tommi Gunn used to play a lot of the clubs we WANTED to play... I'd be on the phone trying to book a place, and I'd say, "I see you have Tommi Gunn on your schedule, and we're a lot like them so-"
Click. Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
Let's just say they were festive. You couldn't book a motel room after they'd been there, either, I hear they were kinda hard on motel rooms.
Great band, though.--->JMS _________________ Go see Joe's band. |
