I attended one of Jims workshops last year. The one I attended was for percussion and was really more of a spiritual thing than a learning experience - well unless you dont know how to play a percussion instrument.

Jims a great guy to talk to and has some great stories.

You may want to double check to be sure its not a percussion workshop.

Thanks Steve.

In other words, if you're looking for tips to improve your chops or tips on playing a kit, this wokshop might not be for me ?

Hawk....

Yeah, I would double check to be certain its not one of his percussion clinics. He does various workshops for different skill levels for percussion. I've never known him to do a clinic on the kit, but I could be wrong. Be sure - get the details.

If youre into percussion though, definitely check it out. The one I went to was beginner/novice. I didnt learn anything new, but the spiritual/community vibe and his stories were worth the money spent. We also spoke in depth afterwards about stretch excercises for sore wrists and forearms. I had terrible technique when I played in St. Croix and pay the price for it now. My hands go numb if I play congas too hard or for a long length of time. His stretches help.

Hope that helps.

"Rhythmic Motivation" for ages 16 and older will be held from 1 to 4:30.

"Drum the Ecstatic," Donovan's performance, will be presented at 7:30.

The cost of "KidsJam" is $10 in advance and $15 at the door; "Rhythmic Motivation" is $35 in advance and $45 at the door; and "Drum the Ecstatic" is $10 in advance or for workshop students or $15 at the door.

I saw a Jim Donovan performance at Saint Francis in December. Very good stuff if you dig African music or just want to hear some new grooves. He's a super nice guy also.
