Another Bass Get Together?

Post by bassist_25 »

Hey, I've just been thinking that it would be cool to have another Bass Get Together. I haven't really talked to anyone personally about this, but I've just been thinking that it would be cool to have another one.

What's everyone think? Any specific times? Kent, if you're interested, do you think you could procure a room again?

I'm down. I'll even prepare a little ditty about signal chains and levels. Maybe a demostration or two of what not to do and why :)

Hey, as far as we're concerned, the bass is part of the percussion section. 8) Perhaps we should have a bass / drum get together.

That would actually be pretty cool. If that's the case, I definitely think there should be a presentation on groove/pocket between bass and drums.

I'll probably be up for seeing this. I've tried effects but always seem to turn my signal chain into one big 'Tone-Sucking' monster.

Count me in!

Cool, all we need is a room is a fairly central location. Any ideas?

I think Ohio is fairly central. Perhaps slightly east of Akron?!?

I doubt I'll be in town for this one guys, unless it happens on a weekend where my schedule is empty and free for me to return to PA. I don't really have anything to contribute anyway. I finally got myself a USA Spector BOB, but other than that, I don't have any new gear for everyone to try out.

Take pics this time guys!!

The boilerhouse was awesome (or the "shizzle," as the kids say nowadays). That would be great if you could get it again, Kent. For me, Mondays and Tuesdays work best.

What topics were discussed before? What topics would everyone want to see discussed?

Possible Ideas:

- Effects: Using single effects or multi effect units.
- Strings: Types, Cleaning (string bong).
- Amps/Cabs... getting more out of less
- Setting up your bass
- Playing techniques
- Sneaking new bass gear past wife/girlfriend  (borrowed from TB)

Ideas?

At the last get together, Kent did a demonstration of his rig, Dan offered his basses to check out, and I did a demonstration on chordal approaches to bass.

Personally, some topics I'd like to see covered are..

- Improvising walking lines over chord structures
- Effects (see my thread in the tech sector ;))
- Double thumping (I can't do this technique to save the life of me)

Though sneaking gear past your girlfriend or wife could be pretty useful.

Step up peeps and volunteer for a demonstration!

And Paul, you can perhaps present a Power-Point on the proper dispersion of Snickers to crowds of various sizes and intensities, while keeping in mind the ratios of crowd numbers to Snickers size choices, including bite-size, fun-size and full size.
Dood...

I can do the effects one as part of the signal one, maybe a bit technical, but I should be able to break it down for everyone to understand easily.

If it doesn't sell before then, I'll have a ME50B for people to mess around with (and if someone happened to be interested, would be a great time to check it out :) Also would go along well as practice to "sneaking gear past the significant other") I also added a Line 6 Bass Pod XT Live to the rig recently if someone wants to check that out.

And double thumping, I know the technique, but I just never practiced it enough to be fluent. I can offer the basics.

Now just plain funkin' I can do a little more depth on. The two are entirely different.

Improvising & Double Thumping would be great to learn. I need to learn a bunch of stuff. I'm going through a bass mid-life crisis. :?
