Besides Don Knotts, actor Darren McGavin died this weekend as well. He was 83. Darren appeared in movies and in TV, where he starred in Kolchak: The Night Stalker. He is probably best remembered as Ralphie's grouchy, furnace-fighting dad in the now famous Christmas season movie, A Christmas Story.

In that movie, one of my favorite scenes is when Ralphie's mother accidentally breaks the leg lamp - a prize/award his dad (Darren) won from work; and his dad gathers all the broken pieces of his beloved lamp and shakes his finger at her and angrily cries, "Nottafingah!!!!"

That sucks. I didnt hear that. I heard Don Knotts passed on but not Darren McGaven. I liked that old Night Stalker show. (The new one was boring) And everybody loves 'A Christmas Story'. He will be missed.

What is that ? Well anyone could see it's a major award !!!

Any time I hear of someone have'n furnace problems I think of A Christmas Story !! Tha's one of my all time favs.

As soon as I told my friend about Don Knotts, and Grandpa Munster, he said, watch out for another, these things always happen in 3's.

Now I read about Darrin McGavin. Damned.

He comes in the front door all excited about the telegram telling him he won a "major award", catches the neighbor's hound in the door by its big floppy ear. The dog begins to howl in pain, so he goes back to the door, opens it but says, "Serves ya right, ya smelly buggers!"

Cracks me up every time.
