It's time to walk...
Well, my gfriend just called form IUP. She arrived on campus around 11:00ish and gas was $1.99/gallon. Minutes ago when she called the gas had risen to $2.45/gallon at the Sheetz on campus.
Did you ever get so angry at your government because you feel so helpless because you know that killing is wrong?! Someone needs to step in and regulate what the fuck is going on.
The cost of living is skyrocketing, but wages are dropping...where can I sign up for welfare. It's the only way and only time the government will help you!
Pump-and-go...boy is there gonna be a lot of theft happening within the next few days/months!

Just be glad you don't live in a major city like LA, or NYC.

but if you listened closely, it won't be for like 5 to 10 years before the use of it will be possible!!!!!naaaah, it's just to convince the herd that we want Bush drilling in Alaska! The Senate voted Wednesday to permit oil drilling in Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, handing President Bush a major victory and environmentalists a stinging defeat.

If you heard the gnashing of teeth in the Altoona area just before 2 this afternoon, it was me after looking at the gas pump at the 17th Street Sheetz. 87 is finally up over $2 a gallon, at $2.05. The teeth-gnashing is because in about 48 hours, a friend and I will be on the road, driving to vacation in Florida. It looks like soime of the money we would be saving by staying over at friends' places instead of hotels will instead go to the gas pumps. I wonder if it's too late to get a good cheap airline ticket?
I never thought I'd be interested in buying a motorcycle, but with the gas prices going upward, I'm starting to give it some thought...

After further investigation, I believe that the $2.45 price was Sheetz in the process of upping the price. I just came from Jtown and the Sheetz in the Westwood Plaza had premium up to $2.45...but...after a few minute dely with no action, the number started rotating. I believe the price was in the process of being changed and the $2.45 price was not the actualy/final price. However, it's official that the price for 87 unleaded is at least $2.05 a gallon and RISING!
I'm a true, all out tree hugger. Hell, I play in dirt for a living. But right now I'm having trouble weighing my bank account against my morals. This whole Alaska thing made me happy, but then again it's in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. My gfriend and myself have four vehicles...she has a beetle and I have a dump truck with a 460 v8, a 3/4 ton with a 454 v8, and another 3/4 ton with a 350 v8. Then on top of this I have two commercial zero-turn tractors with 10 gallon tanks and I'm purchasing two more tractors within the next month. YIKES...I spent $4300 on fuel last year and I can't begin to think what I'll be spending this year.

That's okay. Many ABATE members wear helmets - my wife won't get on her bike without one. What does the government have to do with the supply and demand of oil?JayBird wrote:Well, my gfriend just called form IUP. She arrived on campus around 11:00ish and gas was $1.99/gallon. Minutes ago when she called the gas had risen to $2.45/gallon at the Sheetz on campus.

I agree with you about the welfare thing. The functions of the Departments of HUD and Health & Human Services are not enumerated in the constitution and should be abolished outright, today.

Re: gas
You are giving GW Bush far too much credit. Alan Greenspan has more power over the price of oil than the prez, and that is next to nothing.Matt_22 wrote:Did everyone overlook that the bush family has been into the oil business thier entire lives and maybe George W. is paying back some of his financial supporters for the previous election at our expense. Did you know that half of the cost of the price of oil above $30 is due to the fact that the dollar has devalued 30% versus the Euro? A dollar only buys 70% of the oil it did before the trade gap expanded a few years ago.
Did you know that the other half of the cost of the price of oil above $30/bbl is due to continuously increasing oil demand from China? You know, those guys who are causing the trade gap that devalued the dollar? (see above)
You can believe what you want to believe, but this is the nuts and bolts economics of the situation. You want cheaper oil? Get everbody to stop buying Chinese junk.

Again. Fk NAFTA. Bring back American jobs. Up minium wage. Pay me more. Lower healthcare costs so that we don't have to go to the Canuk's to get them to fill our Rx's.... make America a whole lot stronger...lonewolf wrote:You can believe what you want to believe, but this is the nuts and bolts economics of the situation. Re: gas
NAFTA really has little to do with the loss of manufacturing jobs in the US, we the consumers are totally to blame for that. All NAFTA did was take some of the huge chunk of manufacturing work that was going to Asia and redirected it to Mexico instead.esa wrote:Again. Fk NAFTA. Bring back American jobs. Up minium wage. The problem is that we in the US have developed a culture where we want everything that we buy to be as inexpensive as possible, but yet we want top dollar for anything we manufacture and sell.
Raising the minimum wage makes things worse because then we create more opportunities for companies to save a buck by sending manufacturing out of the country.
Lonewolf had the only viable solution... stop buying Chinese junk. That is one tough (sometimes impossible) rule to follow.
... and then the wheel fell off.

It's a good thing that Sam Adams and his cohorts didn't have that attitude about the price of tea in 1773.DMFJ03 wrote:The bottom line is this: Deal with it.
