Rocky

Post by bfoust »

Anyone else getting annoyed certain commercials on Rocky? It seems every time I turn on the radio I hear crap about either "Ultra 90" or "Lasik Eye Surgery"...

** EDIT: I formally apologize to the person I named in my post, it was very childish and seemed like a direct attack on the person.

Sorry.

I don't prefer some of the music played on other stations.. I like newer rock.. but yea.. I don't like listening to the same commercials every time I listen to it.

That's so getting old.
No offense, BFoust, but if you knew anything about radio and advertising, you'd get why it happens. Like Dirty said, if you don't like it, change the station.

hey man, i had xm for awhile when i worked at krispy kreme delivering. and i'll be honest, if you hate comercials, it really is the way to go. i know, why pay for what's free, right? well, radio is only free because of the comercials. when you pay for radio, there are no comercials. either pay, or get over it, that's pretty much my opinion

I don't mind commercials, I just don't like when the same person does every commercial.. is it that much cheaper for the company than to do it themselves?

The ones that you are referring to are what's called a combo buy. The company (let's call them XYZCorp) buys airtime for regular pre-recorded spots that talk about the XYZCorp products for 30 or 60 seconds. They have also opted to purchase drive time live read endorsements. They give the drive-time personalities discounts off their products and in exchange, the personality has a script that he/she must read live on the air daily. Companies spend big bucks doing it. I had one from Atlantic Broadband that I did 3 times per week, and got my digital cable and internet for $10 per month. It's no different from Michael Phelps doing Visa ads, or Tiger Woods pimping Buick. It happens at all levels. Listen to the Jim Rome Show on ESPN 1430 from noon to 3. You'll hear Rome pimping the Slingbox, various Blackberry products, Chevy Trucks, LegalZoom.com, and tons of other stuff.

Music gets the listeners. Advertising pays the bills, and therefore, advertising is king.

What? Forever broadcasting is playing the same commercial every five minutes now? Man, and I thought it was just the songs that repeated like that. Makes me glad I don't listen to any forever broadcasting station.

As said previously - Satellite is the way of the future.

As said by Kev - Advertising pays the bills.

Only thing is, I only listen to Rocky in the shower, and I'm not going to risk getting electrocuted just to change the station... hah..

Satellite Radio in the bathroom isn't an option for me.. I could just run a speaker in there and use a playlist on my pc i guess
