Sweet Child Of Mine

She's got eyes of the bluest skies
As if they thought of rain
I hate to look into those eyes
And see an ounce of pain
Her hair reminds me of a warm safe place
Where as a child I'd hide
And pray for the thunder
And the rain
To quietly pass me by

Forever Young
And when you finally fly away
Ill be hoping that I served you well
For all the wisdom of a lifetime
No one can ever tell
But whatever road you choose
Im right behind you, win or lose
Forever young, forever young
Who needs gold and diamonds when you can have chrome....

"The years rolled slowly past
and I found myself alone.
Surrounded by strangers I thought were my friends
Found myself further and further from my home and I
I guess I lost my way
There were oh so many roads
I was livin' to run and runnin' to live
never worryin' about payin'
or even how much I owed."

"Thoughts meander like a restless wind inside a letter box
They tumble blindly as they make their way
Across the universe."

"Limitless undying love which shines around me like a million suns
It calls me on and on
Across the universe."

"Although I search myself, it's always someone else I see."

"She looked over at me with a glazed eye and some bovine perspiration on her upper lip area and said, 'Just get me wasted and you're half way there 'cause if my mind's tore up then my body don't care.'
I rubbed my chinny chin chin and said, 'My, my, my....what sort of thing might this lady get high upon?'"

"Son of a bitch! Let me rip his eyes out! Prancin' around like a goddam faggot!"

Time to play "B" sides

From Blue Oyster Cult's Burnin' For You. For those of us who grew up listening to 45 records, we know what this line means and especially when you would find a great song on the flipside of a hit record.

I'm just surprised you didn't post them earlier in the thread
Gimme a break, I just got there! Heh

I've got a few more though...

Alice Cooper - "Is Anyone Home?"

I'm so lonely I can almost taste it
In a perfect world I'd just be wasted
Send me an angel, wrap me in her wings
Hello, hello, hello
Is anyone home?

Evanescence - "Field Of Innocence"

I still remember the world
From the eyes of a child
Slowly, those feelings were clouded
By what I know now

Second Offense - "Lust"

But I can't get past making fuck to you!

(And,)
You scream "Fuck me!" like you hate me
Easy, that's how I feel anyway

Metallica - "Fade To Black"

I was me, but now he's gone

Nightwish - "Dead Boy's Poem"

Never sigh for better world
It's already composed, played and told
Every thought the music I write
Everything a wish for the night

Ok, ok, that's enough for now, I'll let others get a few more out before I find more lyrics to post. Heh

In god's eyes, everybody's hot.
This world has beauty all thru her.
Picture the fattest chick you know.
God would totally do her.

He'd do her all the way, even call her the next day,
to see how work was goin
Peter & Lois stoned out of their mind at the talent show in "Deep Throats" episode of Family Guy.
Laugh if you want to, really is kinda funny, 'cause the world is a car and you're the crash test dummy.

Then as it was, then again it will be
An' though the course may change sometimes
Rivers always reach the sea
- Zep, Ten Years Gone

oh, where the North Wind sleeps
That is when we'll meet again...
oh, where the shadows creep
in the Twilight I'll descend
Good and Evil, it never ends
You're just a means to an end
- Symphony X, Revelation (Divus Pennae Ex Tragoedia)

I never wanted
To write these words down for you
With the pages of phrases
Of things well never do
So I blow out the candle, and
I put you to bed
Since you cant say to me
Now how the dogs broke your bone
Theres just one thing left to be said
Say hello to heaven
- Temple of the Dog, Say Hello to Heaven

i will light the match this mornin', so i won't be alone
watch as she lies silent, for soon light will be gone
i will stand arms outstretched, pretend i'm free to roam
i will make my way, through, one more day
- Pearl Jam, Indifference

Did they get you to trade
Your heros for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange
A walk on part in the war
For a lead role in a cage?
- Pink Floyd, Wish You Were Here

So ya
Thought ya
Might like to go to the show.
To feel the warm thrill of confusion
That space cadet glow.
Tell me is something eluding you, sunshine?
Is this not what you expected to see?
If you wanna find out what's behind these cold eyes
You'll just have to claw your way through this disguise.
- Pink Floyd, In the Flesh?

I've watched the dogs of war enjoying their feast
I've seen the western world go down in the east
The food of love became the greed of our time
But now I'm living on the profits of pride
- Black Sabbath, Hole in the Sky

The world is full of Kings and Queens
Who blind your eyes and steal your dreams
It's Heaven and Hell
Black Sabbath, Heaven and Hell

And as I lay there gazing at the sky
My body's numb and my throat is dry
And as I lay forgotten and alone
Without a tear I draw my parting groan.
- Iron Maiden, The Trooper

Life planned out before my birth, nothing could I say
Had no chance to see myself, molded day by day
Looking back I realize, nothing have I done
Left to die with only friend
Alone I clench my gun
-Metallica, Disposable Heroes

ok... I'll stop.... so many, and so good
You better call me a doctor - feelin' no pain!

I think any experienced (older) professional musician would consider this song as their anthem, and can definitely relate. I know I do.

Deacon Blues - Steely Dan

This is the day, of the expanding man
That shape is my shade, there where I used to stand
It seems like only yesterday, I gazed through the glass
At ramblers - Wild gamblers
Thats all in the past

You call me a fool, you say its a crazy scheme
This ones for real, I already bought the dream
So useless to ask me why, throw a kiss and say goodbye
Ill make it this time
Im ready to cross that fine line

Chorus:
Ill learn to work the saxophone
Ill play just what I feel
Drink scotch whisky all night long
And die behind the wheel
They got a name for the winners in the world
I want a name when I lose
They call alabama the crimson tide
Call me deacon blues

My back to the wall, A victim of laughing chance
This is for me, the essence of true romance
Sharing the things we know and love
With those of my kind
Libations - Sensations - That stagger the mind

I crawl like a viper, through these suburban streets
Make love to these women, Languid and bittersweet
Ill rise when the sun goes down
Cover every game in town
A world of my own
Ill make it my home sweet home

Chorus

This is the night, of the expanding the man
I take one last drag, as I approach the stand
I cried when I wrote this song
Sue me if I play too long
This brother is free - Ill be what I want to be
"Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy."

This is definitely among my all-time favs. If not my fav. It has a lot of personal meaning that I can identify w/and feel every time I hear it. Awesome writing.

He had enough
He couldn't take anymore
He'd found a place
In his mind and slammed the door
No matter how they tried
They couldn't understand
They washed and dressed him
Fed him by hand

Yeah! I've left the world behind
I am safe here in my mind
Free to speak with my own kind
This is my life, this is my life
I'll decide not you

Withdrawn he'd sit there
Staring into space
No sign of life
Would flicker on his face
Until one day he smiled
It seemed as though with pride
The wind kissed him
Goodbye - and then he died

Yeah! I've left the world behind
I am safe here in my mind
Free to speak with my own kind
This is my life, this is my life
I'll decide not you

Keep the world with all its sin
It's not fit for livin' in
Yeah! I will start again
It can take forever, and ever, and ever
And ever, but I'll still win.

How many like him,
Are there still
But to us, all
Seem to have lost the will
They lie in thousands
Plagued and lost
Is nothing worth this bitter cost

Yeah! I've left the world behind
I am safe here in my mind
Free to speak with my own kind
This is my life, this is my life
I'll decide not you

Keep the world with all its sin
It's not fit for livin' in

Beyond the realms of death.

Poets, priests and politicians
Have words to thank for their positions - The Police

Never trust a man in a blue trench coat
Never drive a car when you're dead - Tom Waits

So they put her on the hit list
Of a calm and cunning linguist
A master of many tongues - Deep Purple

Every word of Tangled Up in Blue.......

I've always thought that...

And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our souls
There was a lady we all know...

was the greatest verse ever.

Then, the evil Bag kicks in, and he likes...

Here's to the old school
Doesn't matter if you look cool
We drank some beers and broke some heads
We never gave a shit
Climbed every mountain
Stormed every city
They said that this would never last
We never gave a fuck...

Maynard James Keenan wrote:We barely remember who or what came before this precious moment,
We are choosing to be here right now. hold on, stay inside...
This holy reality, this holy experience. choosing to be here in...

This body. this body holding me. be my reminder here that I am not alone in
This body, this body holding me, feeling eternal all this pain is an illusion.

Alive

This holy reality, in this holy experience. choosing to be here in...

This body. this body holding me. be my reminder here that I am not alone in
This body, this body holding me, feeling eternal all this pain is an illusion...
Of what it means to be alive

Swirling round with this familiar parable.
Spinning, weaving round each new experience.
Recognize this as a holy gift and celebrate this
Chance to be alive and breathing
Chance to be alive and breathing.

This body holding me reminds me of my own mortality.
Embrace this moment. remember. we are eternal.
All this pain is an illusion.

This is a cool thread. Unfortunately, there are so many I don't even
know where to start.

Even if there's a tune that I dig musically, bad lyrics take it down
considerably (Whomever writes the majority of Buckcherry's lyrics
needs to be beaten to death with a shovel).

A couple I think consistently write great, well-thought, intelligent
lyrics are Aimee Mann and Meredith Brooks (Her one exception is
"Bitch". Not that they're bad, just not one of her strongest tunes all
around).

SO, I'll go with every song on Mann's album "Whatever".

Love rap or hate rap, Eminem is one of my favorite lyricists. He is amazing at stringing words together that really have no business being together, but they flow perfectly and impressively.

Kudos to him. Flame away. Don't care. Listen and read along sometime. It's crazy.

"doctor says he's comin' but ya gotta pay him cash"

or Waylon

Cowboys ain't easy to love and they're harder to hold
They'd rather give you a song than diamonds and gold

and

He ain't wrong he's just different but his pride won't let him do things to make you think he's right.

Thanks Waylon
