• Worst part of their appearance on Leno ... sitting through Jay's monologue.

• It was totally cool seeing them on there, though, even though it wasn't a performance (except for the five second live clip from a show they previewed).

• And how about Beth ... what a ham! She played off Leno like an ol' pro.

• I'll never eat a lollipop ever again, BTW.

• The old guy right after them was effing hilarious: "Dis is why I'm hot, dis is why I'm hot, boyeeeeeee ..."

That's why it's important to visit Rockpage everyday ... EVERYDAY!

Had to dig through an old computer hard drive to find this ... cherished memories of the night I, like many performers from our region, got the chance to share a stage with Halestorm ... these guys deserve all the success ...

(and look, I still had a little hair! )

Anybody else have Halestorm moments/pix to share? Post 'em ... I for one would dig seeing them.

I remember their Castle Pub show 8) They rocked although they had to use a hired drummer. I'll never understand why their mother felt the need to bring a deer spotlight and shine it in her face all night :? Their own songs rocked! I'll never forget their cover of Perry Mason :D Good for them! I'm so happy they made it as far as they have.

BadDazeRob, I think I remember that night, was that at Peter C's? They were great...what band were you in at that time? I do remember a good opening band. And I know what you mean about the deer spotlight. That was a little much....

Yeah, that was Peter C's, circa late-2002 ... what a cool night it was (and thanks for the nice comment about the opener, BTW). It was the first time I got to see them and ... holy crap! Whada show they put on!

After an ass load of bullshit they endured all weekend long, consisting of one bad thing after another (JP can elaborate about it if he feels the need, he's told the story on here before and I don't think I'd be able to find it very fast if I looked) we got a last-minute call to open, I guess so they had time to collect themselves before the appearance. We (the band was called, "Feight") jumped at it.

We did our thing and the whole band — Lzzy, AreJay and the other two who I can't remember their names but aren't with the current band — stood right up front to watch us. That still amazes and humbles me because some openers I've worked with even recently won't do that. A lot of them will hit the door as soon as they're done with they're set.

"Thanks, ƒü©k off. We're outta here."

Anyway, when we finnished, the whole band came up and, not just shook hands, but hung out and chatted for a while before taking the stage. Then, Halestorm proceeded to kick the crowd's collective ass for about 2 1/2 hours straight without a break. Pros all the way.

Lzzy just has it. That's all there is to it.

For me, it's night's like this during my time in this scene that make all the horseshit you have to go through seem much more insignificant.

Here's what I wrote about that night, now only available in my year-end highlights post from 2002. It all actually took place before "JP's Corner" was fully established on Rockpage; note that this was also from back when Big Jim was a member of Banditos:

"This was one of those situations that, if you didn’t know the circumstances leading up to it, you wouldn’t fully appreciate it. The adventure began on Friday night, when “Big Jim” Bandito and I roadtripped to the now-defunct Spectators in Bellefonte to see the double-bill of Stept On and Halestorm. We arrived during Halestorm’s set, and were planning to stick around and catch both bands. Because of the underage members in the band, Halestorm was informed they had to leave Spectators after their set. No problem, “Big Jim” and I would catch Stept On’s first set while Halestorm packed up their gear. Since the group was playing Peter C’s the following night, and had hotel accommodations in Altoona, we offered to escort them back to Altoona and help them find their hotel. En route to State College to grab a bite to eat, Halestorm’s van broke down with a blown fuel pump – right outside of Rockview State Penitentiary! “Big Jim” and I helped the band and their entourage get the van towed to a garage in State College, and good Samaritan that Jim is, he drove two carloads of Halestorm’s entourage back to Altoona to the group’s hotel, and lent the group the use of his spare car until they got their van back and running the next day. To make a long story short, through the ordeal, Halestorm got very little rest, and was “running on fumes” by the time they did their Peter C’s show Saturday night. Despite the lack of rest; after Feight opened the evening, Halestorm played an incredible show, going NONSTOP for over 2 hours, catching their second wind and picking up energy as they went! Perhaps this show more than any other convinced me that singer Lzzy and drummer Arejay are troopers; and despite their current PLCB and band personnel issues, these two young musicians are in it for the long haul."

It's great to see Halestorm enjoying the success they are. I can remember the shows they did up this way in the early years; Q-Fest at the Cresson Sportsmen's Club, Dennie Huber's Crazy Fest, the Station Mall (they performed during some community organization publicity event inside the mall, I remember seeing elderly people staring in amazement at Arejay and his spinning drum kit), some outdoor park in Mill Creek and more. Before several of their appearances on Q94's "Backyard Rocker," the Halestorm entourage and I would often get together for dinner beforehand at the Union Avenue Pizza Hut. Halestorm would autograph glossy photos and hand them to other customers and Pizza Hut staff. I wonder if any of those folks were watching The Tonight Show on Wednesday night, and remembered the band name...

Very cool story piece, JP. It also shows what a great guy Big Jim is too.

I agree, on both accounts.
